Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Renee Rosnes

Written In The Rocks
Smoke Sessions, 2016. Used
One of the most compelling albums we've heard from pianist Renee Rosnes in a long time – a set that features Rosnes working at the head of a very hip quintet with Steve Nelson on vibes and Steve Wilson on alto, flute, and soprano sax! Both of the Steves really open up the sound here – ... CD
Blue Note, 1952/1953. Used
A seminal, yet unusual 50s Blue Note treasure! The album brings together a number of Horace Silver's great trio recordings from the early 50's, most of them with Art Blakey on drums, showing the fluid, rumbling genius that would later make him such a great leader. But the record also includes 2 ... CD

Lee Morgan

Jazz Profile
Blue Note, Late 50s/1960s. Used
Lee Morgan on trumpet joined by Sonny Clark, Sart Taylor, Doug Watkins, Wayne Shorter, Billy Higgens, Curtis Fuller, Jackie McLean, Wayne Shorter & others. CD

John Coltrane

Blue Train
Blue Note, 1957. Used
John Coltrane's classic – and only – recording as a leader for Blue Note! The album's no throwaway date, though – as it stands strongly with both Coltrane's other label work of the time, and with the best of the late 50s Blue Note scene – a time when the label was really ... CD

Dexter Gordon

Doin' Allright
Blue Note, Early 60s. Used
Doin Allright? Dexter's doing great on this one – working with that fully mature Blue Note sound of his – a rich approach to soloing that keeps the tracks cooking with excitement! The group on the set's an all-star lineup that includes Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Horace Parlan on ... CD

Milt Jackson

Bags' Opus
Blue Note, 1959. Used
One of the greatest Milt Jackson albums ever – thanks to an incredible lineup that features Art Farmer on trumpet and Benny Golson on tenor – both of whom give the record a lot more edge than usual for Jackson! The set's almost a maturation of the earliest modern grooves that Milt ... CD

Dexter Gordon

GO
Blue Note, 1962. Used
Seminal stuff – and one of Dexter Gordon's excellent Blue Note sessions with pianist Sonny Clark! Sonny's in fine fine form for the record, and in our opinion, he seems to be the most relaxed and inventive when accompanying Dexter Gordon – even over other Blue Note horn players, and ... CD

Art Blakey

Freedom Rider
Blue Note, 1961. Used
A bold statement of power from one of the most legendary versions of the Jazz Messengers – that incredible quintet that featured Lee Morgan on trumpet, Wayne Shorter on tenor, and Bobby Timmons on piano! The title's an indication of the righteous territory in which the group is working ... CD
Blue Note, 1989. Used

Stanley Turrentine

Up At Minton's – Vols 1 & 2
Blue Note, 1961. Used 2 CDs
A fantastic early record from tenor giant Stanley Turrentine – a set that's completely hard-hitting, and which has a very different vibe than the sweeter sets he'd cut later in the 70s! Instead, this record is pure hardbop all the way through – with Turrentine matching labelmate Hank ... CD
Blue Note, 1957. Used
A rare glimpse of the Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane – recorded in Monk's home turf of The Five Spot by Coltrane's wife at the time! The recording was done on a portable tape recorder, but the overall quality is surprisingly strong – not in stereo, but with more than enough ... CD
