A real lost bit of work from Blue Mitchell – and a great one too! The set was recorded live in 1976 – just south of San Francisco, with production by SF jazzman Pat Britt, and a lineup that included Bay Area players Mark Levine on piano, Smiley Winters on drums, and Mike Morris on tenor sax. The tunes are laidback and long – and given the mix of traditions at work here (from Winters' role in the avant world, to Levine's connection with Latin jazz, and Blue's soul jazz heritage) – the sound is quite striking, and features many fresh moments. Blue's trumpet really holds up well in the extended setting – blowing some wonderful exploratory lines – and a few of the tracks have a great darkly rhythmic undercurrent. Titles include "Portrait Of Jenny", "Pleasure Bent", "Sweet Smiley Winters", and "Something Old Something Blue". © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.
