❔

With Branford Marsalis on tenor and soprano sax, Kenny Kirkland on piano, Kent Jordan on flute, and Ron Carter on bass. Titles include "Melancholia", "Lazy Afternoon", "Stardust", and "For All We Know.  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the printed inner sleeve.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Miles Davis

Sketches Of Spain
Columbia, 1960. Near Mint-
A beautiful collaboration between Miles Davis and the great Gil Evans – and perhaps the most perfectly realized of all their projects! The album's got a wonderfully unified feel – as it begins with long compositions that have a distinct Spanish-tinge (and not a Latin-tinge, which is an ... LP, Vinyl record album

Arthur Blythe

Elaborations
Columbia, 1982. Near Mint-
A beautiful moment in which the loft jazz generation really got a chance to shine in the mainstream – and mostly without any sense of overdone attempts at commercialization! The album's a great summation of all the ideas that reedman Arthur Blythe was cooking up in the 70s underground – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wayne Shorter

Joy Ryder
Columbia, 1988. Near Mint-
A fusion set, but one that's got all those sharp, dark edges that Wayne Shorter developed over the years – served up here with a depth that's maybe much more in the far-reaching fusion styles of Columbia Records in the 70s than some of the more polished efforts of the time! The core combo ... LP, Vinyl record album

James Blood Ulmer

Freelancing
Columbia, 1981. Very Good+
A major label set, but one that stays very true to the new ideals that James Blood Ulmer was trying to bring to jazz guitar at the time – a really revolutionary style that moves beyond simple genre conventions, and embraces a whole world of new ideas that would inspire others in the decade to ... Paul Winter & Carlos Lyra

Sound Of Ipanema
Columbia, Early 60s. Very Good-
The sound of Ipanema in the 60s – served up here in a great partnership between American jazzman Paul Winter, and bossa composer Carlos Lyra! The album's an excellent bossa jazz session all the way through – with alto from Winter that's some of his sharpest on record in the 60s, and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Columbia, 1970. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold

Shakti with John McLaughlin

Handful Of Beauty
Columbia, 1976. Near Mint-
John McLaughlin's the only one pictured on the front cover, but the album's definitely still a highly-collaborative effort from the Shakti group – one that's awash in sounds and styles from Indian music! L Shankhar's violin is used almost as strongly as McLaughlin's guitar – with a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ornette Coleman

Art Of The Improvisers
Atlantic, Early 60s/1970. Near Mint-
Great lost work from Ornette Coleman – material recorded in New York and LA during the years 1959 through 1961 – never issued at the time, but pulled together in this wonderful package at the start of the 70s! Although not recorded as an official album, the record stands easily with ... LP, Vinyl record album

The first LP by Charles Tolliver's legendary group on Strata East – a core quartet that features Tolliver on trumpet, Stanley Cowell on piano, Cecil McBee on bass, and Jimmy Hopps on drums and percussion – all augmented by some larger backings for the session! The core sound is amazing ... LP, Vinyl record album

Reuben Wilson

Blue Mode
Blue Note, 1969. Near Mint-
Heavy funk from the mighty Reuben Wilson – one of his first few albums for Blue Note, and a solid soulful groover that's right up there with Lou Donaldson's work for the label at the time! Tracks are nice and long, and pretty open – often with that kicking drum sound at the bottom that ... LP, Vinyl record album
