Blues On Bach

LP (Item 510982) Atlantic, 1974 — Condition: Very Good+
Titles include "Regret", "Precious Joy", "Blues In H", "Blues In C Minor", "Rise Up In The Morning", and "Blues In B Flat".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has an unglued seam held by clear tape.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Modern Jazz Quartet & Orchestra
Atlantic, Early 1960s. Very Good+
An expanded setting for the Modern Jazz Quartet – and a very compelling little record that has the core combo augmented by larger orchestrations from Gunther Schuller – who has a very sympathetic ear for their sound! Schuller's charts are never overwhelming – and instead shade ... LP, Vinyl record album

Modern Jazz Quartet

Under The Jasmin Tree
Apple, 1968. Very Good+
A nice one! The MJQ record for the Beatles' label, and the record's one of their most interesting in years! The production's pretty straight, but the group's playing in a cool open-ended style that still has elements of their earlier work, but which really makes things a lot more interesting than ... Modern Jazz Quartet

European Concert
Atlantic, 1960. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A double-length live set from the legendary Modern Jazz Quartet – recorded in Scandinavia in 1960, almost as a summation of the group's growing genius in the 50s! Modern Jazz Quartet

Lonely Woman
Atlantic, 1962. Very Good
Truly one of the Modern Jazz Quartet's greatest albums – and a set that has an edge and a darkness that's missing from some of their other Atlantic records! Part of the reason for this may be the group's fantastic reading of Ornette Coleman's "Lonely Woman" – a killer moody ... LP, Vinyl record album

Shelly Manne & His Men

Jazz Gunn
Atlantic, 1967. Very Good+
Shelly Manne scored big with a jazz version of the Peter Gunn soundtrack in the 50s – and he does it again in this 60s version of Henry Mancini's music for the full-length Gunn movie! The style here is a bit more far-reaching and looser than before – showing not just Manne's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jimmy Giuffre

Jimmy Giuffre Clarinet
Atlantic, 1956. Very Good-
Beautiful work from Jimmy Giuffre – and a key album in the development of his spare sound of the late 50s! The record features Jimmy on clarinet – as you'd guess by the title – but this is no hokey set of Benny Goodman or Buddy DeFranco-type tunes. Instead, Giuffre's using the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Herbie Mann

Today!
Atlantic, 1966. Near Mint-
The sound of today, circa 1966 – served up by flute man Herbie Mann, who was always at the forefront of music at the time! Atlantic, 1966. Very Good
Herbie Mann got a standing ovation for this performance – at least if the title is to be believed – and considering the grooves on the set, it was all for very good reason! The album's one of the few to feature Mann in the company of pianist Chick Corea – who steps out here with ... LP, Vinyl record album
