Good

  • A record that you'd buy to play, cheap, but which you wouldn't buy for collecting.
  • Will have marks across all parts of the playing surface, and will most likely play with surface noise throughout. May have some other significant flaws, such as residue, or a track that skips.
  • In most cases, a poor quality copy of a very difficult to find record.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Wand, Late 60s. Very Good
Two excellent numbers from this extremely talented Chicago vocal group! The Esquires had harmonies that most other groups would die for – and they groove massively on "You Got The Power", a swinging uptempo number with that loping sound that the group pushed big on their first big ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

South Shore Commission

Free Man (orig, disco mix)
Wand, 1975. Near Mint-
A bona-fide club classic – and the standout classic of the South Shore Commission! The tune's got a stepping soulful approach that's early Philly club at its best – the early days of disco, when there was still plenty of soul in the mix! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Wand, 1974. Near Mint-
Nice electric funk single from the 70's, and one that's got a very different sound than the General's raw late 60's work from Chicago! This one's got some nice wah wah keyboards, and a good choppy groove that's got this cool popping instrumental sound on the flip! Very nice – and one of his ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Wand, 1974. Very Good+
A great little number from General Crook! "I'm Satisfied" is tight and mellow – Crook getting down with some slow vamping electric keys and bass – building up the tune in a wonderful way, and sounding a lot like Garland Green on some of his best early 70s sides! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Symbol, Late 60s. Good
Classic 60's northern material by this lesser-known group who recorded for Sue's Symbol subsidiary. Juggy Murray produced the single, and it's got a good rolling catchy groove, with a hard sing-song chorus. Very nice stuff, and a beautiful loud original single! 7-inch, Vinyl record
