The long-awaited second set from Kindred The Family Soul – a duo who really grabbed us with their excellent Surrender To Love, and who really follow up on its promise with this excellent set! Kindred have a totally righteous sound that's long steeped in traditions of soul and gospel – yet which comes off here with that lean and clean Hidden Beach groove first made famous by Jill Scott – a great bridge between indie and mainstream soul, and proof that good music in our generation can still come from a wide-reaching source! As before, the blend of vocals and rhythms here is completely sublime – handled with a warmth that's amazing, and better fitted than even before with a strong sense of a good hook and a captivating tune. Titles include "Do You Remember", "Thru Love", "Turn It Up", "As Of Yet", "Message To Marvin", "Let It All Go", "Sneak A Freak", "My Time", and "Bed Time Story".  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

The former lead singer from the Brand New Heavies breaks out on her own for this debut LP. The tracks have a straighter, less jazzy approach than you might hope for, and the album was largely self produced, though Dallas Austin contributed a few tracks. D'Angelo comes back after many years awol from the studio – and the result is a stunning new step in his music! We've loved the man from day one – and some folks could well say that he really helped reinvigorate soul back in the 90s – and all his time away from the studio has ... CD
Voodoo
Virgin, 2000. Used
Sweet and gritty soul from D'Angelo – who takes a huge step into deeper territory on Voodoo – and it's one of the most monumental records of its time! On one level, Voodoo works as a nicely stripped-down session with a very classic soul feel. Gone are the overzealous flourishes that ... CD
