Stormy Weather – With Lennie Hayton's Orchestra (with bonus tracks)

CD (Item 509150) RCA/Bluebird, Mid 50s — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

CD

✈

One of Lena Horne's greatest albums of the 50s – a rock-solid effort that takes its name from her famous film appearance of the 40s, but which features some wonderfully sophisticated songs in a very postwar mode! As with other RCA dates of the time, the orchestra's handled by Lena's partner Lennie Hayton – and has a nice jazzy pitch, especially on tunes that feature trumpet solos from Charlie Shavers. Titles include "Summertime", "Mad About The Boy", "Tomorrow Mountain", "Ridin On The Moon", "I Wonder What Became Of Me", and "Just One Of Those Things". CD features 10 more bonus tracks – including "Come Runnin", "From This Moment On", "I Have Dreamed", "Sweet Thing", "That Old Feeling", and "What's Right For You".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Out of print First Editions pressing.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Mark Murphy

Song For The Geese
RCA/Reverso, 1997. Used
Recent work by Mark Murphy – but as sublime as most of his best stuff from the 70s! The set was recorded in Europe, with the kind of respectful backing you'd expect from a scene that's loved Murphy's work for years – and which have done quite a bit to keep his unique style of jazz ... CD

A very well-recorded live set – one in which Harry Belafonte's voice echoes out beautifully in the space of Carnegie Hall, alongside hip backings from Robert Corman! CD

Tony Perkins

From My Heart
RCA/BMG (Japan), 1958. Used
An early vocal outing from the star of Psycho – surprisingly nice, with this unusual blue-tinged vibe! Plus, the arrangements are great – handled by jazzman Al Cohn, and directed by Urbie Green! CD
