Francis A & Edward K

LP (Item 509070) Reprise, Early 60s — Condition: Near Mint-

Titles include "Follow Me"," Sunny", "All I Need Is You Girl", "I Like The Sunrise", and "Yellow Days".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Tri-color stereo pressing. Cover has light wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Mavis Rivers

Swing Along With Mavis
Reprise, 1961. Very Good+
An overlooked early 60s gem from singer Mavis Rivers – recorded for the young Reprise label, and with a nice little bounce that really works well with her vocals! Mavis definitely sings jazz, but often has an undercurrent of R&B – particularly in her range, which is often pushing ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jo Stafford gets sentimental over Tommy Dorsey – but in sweet swinging ways that really reflect the 60s setting of the record! In other words, the tunes may be a bit old – but they're recast in more modern arrangements here by Nelson Riddle, Billy May, and Benny Carter – all of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Vocalist Al Hibbler gets some of the coolest backings of his career – some great arrangements from the young Gerald Wilson, who makes the music swing in ways that Al never got back in the 50s! The tune's got a sharp, soulful sparkle that really comes from Wilson's great charts – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nancy Wilson

Nancy – Naturally
Capitol, Late 60s. Very Good+
A great one from Nancy Wilson – a set that has the singer working with full arrangements from Billy May, who's got this surprisingly subtle approach at times that works really well with the soulful currents in Nancy's vocals! The approach is almost more like Oliver Nelson, especially with ... LP, Vinyl record album

Billie Holiday/Ralph Burns with Lee Konitz

Jazz Recital
Clef, 1951. Very Good
A great album – if not just for the Billie Holiday work, then for the titles by Ralph Burns! Side one features 7 classic Holiday tunes – including "Strange Fruit", "The Man I Love", and "All Of Me" – all done in straight Verve mode, which is nice ... LP, Vinyl record album

Little Miss Cornshucks

Loneliest Girl In Town
Chess, 1960. Very Good
The only album ever recorded by Little Miss Cornshucks – something of an enigma in the 50s R&B scene, as she was a singer who had this down-home look, name, and stage style – but who sang in a sophisticated bluesy style that sounded a lot like Esther Phillips or Etta James at their ... Liberty, Late 50s. Very Good+
A landmark album in 50s vocal jazz – spare, moody, and evocative tunes from Julie London – sung in a stripped-down setting that few other singers would dare at the time!
