An album of incredible beauty – and one of the key early sides that Shorter cut for Blue Note! It's nearly impossible to describe the genius of these records without playing them – and upon playing, all words disappear in the brilliance of Shorter's incredible tone, solo imagination, and writing! There's a nascent soulfulness here that would emerge quite strongly across the field of jazz in the late 60s and early 70s – bubbling forth here on the session, with a sound that we could only call Shorter-archetypal – and return to again and again over the years, as proof that few players ever measured up as greatly at such a young age! The group's a quintet with Herbie Hancock on piano, Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Ron Carter on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums – and the set list includes "Speak No Evil", "Infant Eyes", "Witch Hunt", and "Wild Flower".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Out of print. Spine has a thin cutout notch. Booklet has light age spots.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Blue Note, 1966. Used

Let Freedom Ring
Blue Note, 1962. Used

Hank Mobley

No Room For Squares
Blue Note, 1963. Used
An excellent CD reworking of the original Mobley hardbop classic, and one that restores a number of tracks that were originally recorded for the album's session, but which showed up on other Blue Note albums. The whole thing's got 8 cuts in all, some of which didn't appear on the orignal album, ... CD

Dexter Calling
Blue Note, 1961. Used
Don't take the cover the wrong way – because this isn't one of those "phoned in" sessions that seem to turn up way too much in contemporary jazz! The album's a real classic from Dexter's first big "comeback" period – and represents the strength of his Blue Note ... CD
