One O'Clock Jump

LP (Item 507439) Columbia, 1942/1946/Early 50s — Condition: Near Mint-
A classic collection of material from Count Basie – with some sides from 1942, a few from 1946, and a few great ones from the revival years at the start of the 50s! We love these last ones the best – and titles include classic readings of "Little Pony", "Beaver Junction", "I'm Confessin", and "One O'Clock Jump". 40s material includes "Mutton Leg", "Stay Cool", "Ay Now", and "Ride On".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Basie Big Band
Pablo, 1975. Very Good+
The Basie band is plenty big here – but never too much so to lose their confident swing of earlier years! Basie At Birdland
Roulette, 1961. Very Good+
A killer set from Count Basie – recorded during the height of his years at Roulette! The back cover of the record proclaims that "Basie Is Back Home" – clearly a bit by Birdland to lay claim to being the Count's home address, which is a bit of a challenge to his KC roots! ... Pop Goes The Basie
Reprise, 1964. Near Mint-
Count Basie goes pop, and the results are mighty nice – a hard-swinging take on familiar tunes from the 60s, but all re-tooled the jazzy Basie way! The vibe here is right up there with the best Neal Hefti moments with the group – and although the arrangements are by Billy Byers, they've ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dave Brubeck with Gerry Mulligan

Blues Roots
Columbia, 1968. Very Good-
An overlooked Dave Brubeck from the 60s – and one of his most striking sessions at the time! The album steps a bit into the Blues Roots promised in the title – but overall, it's more of a unique meeting between Brubeck's piano and the baritone sax of Gerry Mulligan – coming ... A real 70s standout from guitarist Al Di Meola – and that's saying a lot, given the strength of most of his albums from the decade! The record's one that broke Al's talents out to so many different groups – yet never in a way that waters down his sound, nor dims his genius for a solo. ... LP, Vinyl record album
