A smooth little set from reedman Justo Almario – the player who cut some great work with Roy Ayers, and who's also been a key force in Latin jazz on the west coast! The set's got a sound that's a bit more mainstream fusion than some of Justo's other work – but a groove that's still pretty nice overall, and which still definitely allows plenty of space for Almario's work on tenor, soprano sax, and flute. Alex Acuna plays a bit of percussion on the record, but the main rhythm tracks are electric – and done by arranger/producer Jimmy Tanaka. Titles include "Seventh Avenue", "Morning Goddess", "Jugando", "To The Max", "Abrazos Y Besos", "Smiles Ahead", "Quiet Wind", and "Rumbon". We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sweet keyboard soul from Deodato – a set that steps off nicely from the strengths of his big hits on CTI, hitting a similarly flowing groove that's really great! The instrumentation here is a bit more expanded than before, but never in a way that buries the keyboards – and Deodato's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Key proof that Deodato kept on making great records after leaving CTI Records – and in a way, the kind of set that allowed him a bit more freedom to grow than some of his contemporaries! The vibe here is a bit tighter than before, but in a way that makes many numbers even funkier – ... LP, Vinyl record album

The Crusaders are really going strong at this point – in near-hit status, almost acting as the Steely Dan of LA jazz. The sound is certainly slicker than before, but in a way that's actually pretty darn nice – as Joe Sample, Wilton Felder, Stix Hooper, and Larry Carlton come together ... LP, Vinyl record album

An overlooked gem from pianist Junior Mance – and maybe one of the most old school records he cut in the 80s! The set's a no-nonsense, soul-drenched session that maybe feels more like Prestige Records' soul jazz years than you might expect, given the date – with Mance on piano in a ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of Cannonball Adderley's excellent moody electric albums from the early 70s – with a stripped down vibe that's really nice, made even better by sweeeet production by David Axelrod! An overlooked Hammond slammer from Charles Earland – cut at a time when he was working on more electric keyboards for other labels. Bad Bossa Nova is right – as Gene Ammons really hits a great groove here – one that's not exactly bossa, but which has lots of Latin and tropical touches!
