Jazz Brat

CD (Item 507167) Verve/Kitty (Germany), 1995 — Condition: Used
$2.99 ...

CD

The breakthrough LP that brought Monday Michiru out of Japan, and exposed her work to a new worldwide audience! The record (like so many of her others) features performances by a great array of cool guests, including Cleveland Watkiss, DJ Krush, and Simon Richmond of Palm Skin Productions. The production's very tight, and is a stellar example of the way that Monday mixes jazz funk, soul, and abstract influences into a tight modern soul sound. Loads of great tracks, including "Sunshine After the Rain", "Hold On", "Rainy Daze", "Scat Attack", and "Givin' It". And if our raving comments are not enough, whenever we play this one on the radio in Chicago, we get a massive massive response!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Monday Michiru

Delicious Poison
Kitty (Japan), 1996. Used
An album that has Monday Michiru returning to her jazz funk "roots", and singing with a band that plays live throughout, with no overdubs or samples. The band is a tight collective of young Japanese players, and they get a good hard sound that's reminiscent of the playing on the early ... CD

V2, 1998. Used
The former lead singer from the Brand New Heavies breaks out on her own for this debut LP. Joy Denalane

Born & Raised
Nesola (Germany), 2007. Used
Nice work from Joy Denalane – crisp, popping hip hop soul with great vocals from Joy – and kind of an uptempo, anthemic vibe on most tunes with a few choice slower tunes! Joy's been making waves in the soul scene of her native Germany for years, but Born & Raised is our first ... CD
Skoolcraft, 2005. Used

Sly Johnson

Mic Buddah
Heavenly Sweetness (France), 2015. Used
That's Sly Johnson – not Syl Johnson, the Chicago soul singer – but this Johnson's definitely got an approach that lives up to the classic soul style of the cover! The music's a wonderful mix of deep soul vocals and contemporary production that owes a fair bit to hip hop as well – ... CD
