Music & Rhythm – Ubiquity Studio Sessions Vol 1

CD (Item 507086) Ubiquity, 2004 — Condition: Used
$2.99 ...

CD

Heavy funk from Shawn Lee – known best in recent years for his stunning production work, but really stepping out here as a funky artist in his own right! Shawn's been sneaking out some killer singles over the past few years, but this set's his first really full funky outing – a blistering array of tracks that pays tribute to the Sound Library sound of DeWolfe, KPM, and other classic labels from the 60s and 70s. Most tracks are short and thematic, with sweet funky elements that include electric sitar, fuzzed-up guitar, echoey percussion, snapping drum breaks, and burning organ and keyboard bits! The whole thing comes across extremely well – very very classic-sounding, without any gimmicks or tricks – just a cold, stone, simple batch of funk tracks, served up with perfect production! Titles include "Sexy Beast", "Bollywood", "Italian Stallion", "King Conga", "Drum Monkey", "Spytown", "El Duce", "Organ Grinder", "Scorpion", "Sammy's Theme", and "Boss Bossa".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

New Jersey Kings

Stratosphere Breakdown
Acid Jazz/Hollywood, 1995. Used
Hard hitting funky 45 material – supposedly recorded by a "lost" funk group from the 70s, but actually the James Taylor Quartet playing under a different name! That little bit of name trickery doesn't stop the album from being a nice batch of funky jazz tracks, though – with ... CD

Magic In Threes

Magic In Threes
GED Soul, 2011. Used
The eponymous full length from Nashville psyche funk trio Magic In Threes! There's something of a sound library style to the set – but the trio format gives their take on that groove in a bit of a tighter, more reigned in take on the groove. That's not to say it's not a diverse tapestry of ... CD

Hifivers

Life Shines EP
Hi Five (Germany), 2011. Used
A great German combo, and one with almost as much jazz as funk in the mix – quite a nice change from the usual group of this nature! There's a warm glow to the record right from the start – a vibe that comes from the tight trumpet lines of Michael Voss, who also sings a bit – and ... CD
