Baden Powell Quartet Vol 3

LP (Item 50682) Barclay (France), 1970 — Condition: Very Good
Wonderful work from Baden Powell – cut in the same small group jazz-based mode that he used on his best work for Barclay and MPS! The album's got additional bass, drums, and percussion next to Baden's guitar and vocals – plus additional vocals and flute from the lovely Jeanine De Waleyne. Kicks off with a fantastic grooving reading of Moacir Santos' "Coisa No 1", then rolls into the great "Terra De Katmandou". Other tracks include "Ferro De Passar", "Lua Aberta", and "Falei E Disse".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Malandro
Barclay (Brazil), 1985. Very Good+
The soundtrack for the film version of Chico Buarque's famous opera Malandro – and quite possibly the best recording of the music we've heard! The style here really benefits from the tighter studio production of the film – and the tunes are put together with strong arrangements that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chico Buarque

Chico Buarque (1984)
Barclay/Philips (Brazil), 1984. Very Good+
An overlooked gem from Chico's mid 80s period – a record filled with strong and subtle songs, often backed by some nicely jazz-tinged arrangements from Cristovao Bastos! The album's not as revolutionary as some of Chico's earlier records, but it more than makes up for that with an incredibly ... LP, Vinyl record album

Fool On The Hill
A&M, 1968. Very Good+ Gatefold
One of our favorite albums by Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 – a perfect bridge between the simple pop of earlier records, and the group's expanding sound as the 70s approached! The warmly glowing Brasil 66 style is still very strongly in place, but the music here is all a bit hipper – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Certain Smile, Certain Sadness
Verve, 1966. Near Mint-
Kind of a dream combination in one little album – especially if you dig breezy bossa from the 60s! Vinicius & Toquinho (1974)
Philips (Brazil), 1974. Very Good- Gatefold
Classic bossa mixed with more ambitious touches for the 70s – easily one of the greatest records ever to come from the team of Vinicius and Toquinho! Philips (Brazil), 1979. Very Good
A great 70s album from this excellent Brazilian harmony group! A&M, Late 60s. Near Mint- Gatefold
The greatest and grooviest hits from Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 – that completely charming little group that really warmed up pop at the end of the 60s!
