A recent session, but a nice one from soul jazz legend Nat Adderley! The set features young lion Vincent Herring on alto, and in a way, the whole thing's got that tight revivalist soul jazz style that graced some of the best young lion sessions of the early 90s. The alto/cornet frontline nicely duplicates the old Adderley Brothers sound, but the overall style's much more evolved, with some nicely evocative writing and soloing that makes the album rich in colors and tones. Backing's by Jimmy Cobb and Walter Booker – and titles include "Azule Serape", "Big P", "Mo's Theme", "Arriving Soon", and "Talkin Bout You Cannon". (Out of print.)  © 1996-2018, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

One of Bobby's great back to basics albums for Landmark in the mid 80s – a "return" to straight jazz and bop, oddly territory that Bobby never traveled much in the first place – given his "new thing" status in the 60s! The record features Bobby working with a core ... CD

Ralph Moore's a player we always like to keep our ear on, and this album's no exception – a cracklingly soulful batch of tunes played with a razor-sharp quintet, all tied together beautifully with Moore's tenor on top! The date's great proof that rock-solid sessions could still be cut well ... CD

The title's a bit obtuse, but the music is warm and soulful throughout – a really tremendous session that carries on the strong legacy of solo work that Jimmy Heath was doing in the 70s! The feel here is a lot like some of Heath's dates for the Muse or Xanadu labels – and Jimmy's ... CD

A key recording from one of our favorite tenor talents of the 80s – the amazing Ralph Moore, a player who really carries on a strong legacy from the 60s work of Hank Mobley! Like Mobley, Moore's got a very rich-voiced sound that's steeped in tradition, but which is also never afraid to take ... CD
