Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Hell
Polydor, 1974. Very Good- 2LP Gatefold
JB's wildest album, with a crazy cover that shows him running away from the devil, and great gatefold inner photo with him standing amidst a bunch of declarations of "Hell". The record is a double album filled with lots of different styles from James' funky bag. Nicer bits include " ... LP, Vinyl record album
This Is Marva Josie
Thimble, 1973. Very Good+
Nice mix of jazz and soul, with Earl Hines leading the group, and Weldon Irvine on piano and arrangements. The set's got a few nice originals, like "Love Love Love", "Understanding", and "I Can't Trust Myself". The best cuts are fast jazzy grooves, with a nice jazz ... LP, Vinyl record album
Solar, 1981. Near Mint-
One of the less-remembered acts of the Solar Records empire of the late 70s/early 80s – but a great one! Collage had a strong modern soul groove – taken especially well at midtempo, which is where the band really hit their stride. This album's produced by The Whispers – and in a ... Friction
Stax, 1974. Very Good
One of the most fantastic albums ever about cheatin' and runnin' around behind the back of your loved one, and easily the best thing the Soul Children ever did. Black-Eyed Blues
Kudu, 1973. Very Good+
One of Esther's strong winners for Kudu – a record that takes her soulful style of earlier years, and wraps it around some sly 70s funky arrangements! Ex-James Brown hornman Pee Wee Ellis arranged the album, and gave Esther a nice little dose of funk that really helped her groove – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Motown, 1977. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
This is the second of two live albums that Marvin Gaye cut during the 70s – and in many ways, it's the better one! A damn great bit of work from the legendary Al Green – maybe one of his best records ever – and in fact, maybe one of greatest soul albums of all time! Prelude, 1979. Near Mint-
A stunning club groover that still holds up well after all these years! The album's title cut – the classic "I'm Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)" – has an incredibly tight groove, a catchy hook, and the best sort of New York sound – with tight instrumentation ... LP, Vinyl record album

Minit, 1968. Very Good+
A completely sublime first album from the great Bobby Womack – and a set that already has him sounding quite different than any of his contemporaries! Something New
Columbia, 1983. Very Good+
Something new, and something great from New Horizons – the group's second album, and even tighter than the first!
