Weasels Ripped My Flesh

LP (Item 505891) Bizarre/Reprise, 1970 — Condition: Very Good+
A silly cover and title, but one of the most powerful records so far from Frank Zappa – a set that focuses the mad energy of The Mothers into a groove that really packs a lot of punch! The lineup here is filled with key talents – including Don Preston on organ and electronics, Sugarcane Harris on violin, Lowell George on rhythm guitar, Ian Underwood on alto, and Bunk Gardner on tenor – all players who are more than willing to go to the farther edges of Zappa's consciousness – yet also have the musical chops to make the whole thing come together beautifully! There's a bit more hard rock than some of Zappa's jazz leanings in this set – and titles include "March & Dwarf Nebula", "Didja Get Any Onya", "Directly From My Heart To You", "Toads Of The Short Forest", and "The Eric Dolphy Memorial Barbecue".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original blue label Bizarre pressing with Artisan etch. Cover has light ring & edge wear and a few small drip stains.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Verve/Zappa, 1968. Near Mint- Gatefold
An early masterpiece from Frank Zappa – one of those records that looks like it's going to be a big ol' mess when you first see the cover – but which turns out to be a carefully calculated act of madness in the end! Freak Out (2LP)
Verve, 1966. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A fabulous furry freakout from Frank Zappa – the start of a legendary run in the late 60s – and a record that is still as mindblowing now as it was all those many years back! Pearls Before Swine

Use Of Ashes
Reprise, 1970. Very Good+
An incredibly beautiful album from Pearls Before Swine – one that uses light orchestrations to create a baroquely folksy sort of feel – easily elevating the album past previous efforts, into classic territory we'd rank with the best from Nick Drake or Leonard Cohen! The whole album's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sweet Child
Reprise, 1968. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A fantastic double length set from Pentangle – a record that's certainly noteworthy for the twin guitars of Bert Jansch and John Renbourn, and for the heavenly vocals of Jacqui McShee – but one that also has this amazing rhythm pulse, with subtle jazz currents – thanks to work ... T Rex

Slider
Reprise, 1972. Very Good Gatefold
T Rex's phenomenal second album since moving into a heavier glam mode, following the great Electric Warrior LP – still standing firmly as one of the best purely rocking, trashy fun rock & roll albums of the 70s! On The Beach

You might not guess it by the records that tend to grace our pages, but we do love some Neil Young around the Dusty offices.
