Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Mercury/Wing, 1958. Near Mint-
A really rich album by Sarah Vaughan – recorded in Paris in 1958, with orchestrations by Quincy Jones – and large group backing that includes some great tenor work by Zoot Sims! The session's one of Vaughan's most cohesive albums of the period, and although it's got "violins" ... LP, Vinyl record album

A hip album from Sarah Vaughan – one recorded with great jazz backings from Ernie Wilkins, and featuring a young Cannonball Adderley as the main soloist! Magic Of Sarah Vaughan
Mercury, Early 60s. Very Good
Plenty of magic here – a record with a different sound than some of Sarah Vaughan's earlier work – but one that's still pretty great! The backings here bring in plenty of strings, and a bit of voices – going for a full feel that's a bit like some of the country soul albums of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Copacabana
Pablo, 1979. Near Mint-
An excellent album of tunes recorded in Brazil – featuring a sweet mellow vibe that works very well with Sarah's vocals, done in a direction that we hardly expected her to take at this point! Vaughan With Voices
Mercury, 1963. Very Good+
An unusual album for Sarah Vaughan, but a compelling one too – a set recorded in Copehagen with some Danish singers in the background – providing a pillowy cushion behind Sarah's lead, in ways that make for a wonderfully mellow record! Orchestrations are by Robert Farnon, who works ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mind Dusters
Mercury, 1967. Sealed
A brilliant record – Kenny Rankin's first, and a really unique mix of styles that's completely different from his more famous later albums! The album has a gentle folksy style with touches of jazz – a bit like some of Tim Hardin's work for Verve, but without as much of a sad loser ... LP, Vinyl record album

Although mostly known for her 50's Latin recordings with Tito Puente and Xavier Cugat, Abbe Lane emerges here in the mid 60s, on an album of "many sides", with arrangements by Hal Mooney.
