✈

A majestic batch of tunes from Two Banks Of Four – one of the most exciting UK groups we've heard in years! The set's got a really ambitious feel overall – blending together electric jazz, future beats, and a larger sense of orchestration that reminds us of the work of Cinematic Orchestra or Chris Bowden – the latter of whom is actually in the group on saxes! String arrangements are handled by Ski Oakenful, who also plays some great keyboards on the set – and most tracks are instrumentally-oriented, done in a very evocative style. Titles include "Skylines Over Rooftops", "Theme De La Tete", "Afro Blue", "Hook & A Line", "Street Lullaby (part 1)", "Routemaster", "Perilous Ways", and "Speedy's Auto Repair".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Oakenfull cut his chops in the Brit acid jazz scene of the early 90s – and was briefly the keyboardist for Galliano, but don't hold that against him! This album's a wonderful batch of modern soul tunes and house grooves, very much in the vein of recent work coming out of France – ... CD

End Of A Daze
Ropeadope, 2019. Used
A tight blend of hip hop, funk, and soul – served up with a lot of dark currents around the edges, and in a criss-crossing style that reminds us of some of the hipper experiments of this type from the New York downtown scene in years back! There's distortion at the edge, and lots of moody ... CD
Acid Jazz/Hollywood, 1992. Used
The second volume in this early series that documents the more house-oriented output of the Acid Jazz label in the UK. Many of these cuts have the same jazz/funk groove as the other stuff on the label, but they also have a bit more of a kick, and a groove that's aimed more at the dancefloor. ... CD
