Everybody Loves A Good Time – Best Of Major Lance

CD (Item 503634) Okeh/Epic, 1960s — Condition: Used
2 CDs
$11.99 ...

CD

Major Lance was one of Chicago's first big soul stars – crossing over big on the charts with huge hits for the Okeh label during the early and mid 60s. That work is very fairly represented here on this 40 track set – with great notes, and a rich selection of songs that even includes a few previously unissued gems. Most of Lance's work was written by Curtis Mayfield and produced by Carl Davis – so you know you're getting top shelf material here – and the packaging job by Epic is as great as the rest of the titles in their Rhythm N Soul series. Titles include "Get My Hat", "Come See", "Ain't It A Shame", "Ain't No Soul", "It's The Beat", "Crying In The Rain", "Um, Um, Um, Um, Um", "Keep On Loving You", "Mama Didn't Know", "Monkey Time", "Gotta Get Away", "It Ain't No Use", "Think Nothing About It", and "Everytime".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Out of print. CD case has a cutout hole – but package is still sealed.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Shrine
Epic/Sony (UK), 1986. Used
A big solo moment for Dee C Lee – a singer who'd famously worked with The Style Council, Wham, and even Guru – but who shines plenty brightly here on her own! Dee C wrote most of the songs on the set herself – a few with help from Paul Weller – and the approach here follows ... CD

Killer classics from Heatwave – one of the few UK groups who managed to score big with a US soul market back in the 70s! The album's filled with gems from the group – from mellow slow jams to bumping groovers – including some of those tightly compressed numbers that the group ... CD
Epic/FTG, 1985. Used
Probably the biggest album ever from the brother/sister team of Katreese and Jerry Barnes – working here as Juicy, in a sweet smooth 80s groove style that's mighty nice! Deodato produced the album, and it's similar to some of the other soul material he was handling in the 80s – slick ... CD

Beautiful Ballads
T Neck/Epic, 1970s. Used
Although the Isley Brothers seem to be best remembered for their funky work of the 70s – which shows up again and again on compilations and soundtracks of music from the time – we've always equally loved their way with a ballad, as the group had a really sweet sound when they wanted to, ... CD

One of the greatest albums to ever sum up the genius of Lou Rawls in the 60s – a brilliant live set put together with the talents of David Axelrod! The record perfectly captures the easy-going soul of Rawls in the early years – a natural approach to his music that made him one of the ... CD

Seminal work by one of the biggest gospel crossover stars of the 80s – the mighty mighty David Peaston, a man with a truly god-like voice! Production on the album occasionally has too much of that 80s slickness, but even so, David's voice cuts through the whole thing with a spiritual warmth ... CD
