Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Konono No 1

Assume Crash Position
Crammed (Belgium), 2010. Used
Masterful Congolese dance music from Konono No 1 – just as exciting and rhythmically amazing as their benchmark Congotronics album for Crammed of a few years earlier– with a somewhat bigger and more melodic sound this time out that doesn't sacrifice the street sound immediacy one bit! ... CD

Alhaji Amuda

Ilu Ibadan
African Songs (UK), Mid 70s. Used
Relatively rootsy work from Nigerian artist Alhaji Amuda – heard here in recordings from the mid 70s that mostly just intertwine percussion with lead and ensemble vocals – in a way that's almost more ethnographic than most other studio recordings from the period. As with other Nigerian ... CD

Kola Ogunkoya & His Washington Afro Jazz Ensemble

My Darling
NPC, 2005. Used
Contemporary Afro Funk from Kola Ogunkoya – a trumpeter who worked with Fela back in the day, and who's managed to carry on the Ethiopian groove over here in the US! The cover of the CD's a bit cheesy, but the music is pretty darn great – and Kola's group are a DC-based ensemble who ... CD

Lee Morgan

Candy
Blue Note, 1957. Used
A very different album for Lee Morgan – especially in comparison with his other early sessions! The record is a gentle batch of ballads and standards, played by Morgan with a quartet that includes Sonny Clark on piano, Doug Watkins on bass, and Art Taylor on drums – all beautifully ... CD
Riverside/OJC, 1955. Used

Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto

Getz/Gilberto
Verve, 1964. Used
A landmark record – both in 60s jazz and bossa nova – and a set that not only bridged worlds of music, but set the tone for so many other albums to come! By the time of this 1964 set, Stan Getz had already issued a few bossa nova experiments on Verve – but this pairing with ... CD
