Check It Out – Best Of The Acid Jazz Years

CD (Item 502229) Snapper (UK), 1990s — Condition: Used
2 CDs
Out Of Stock

30 tracks by one of the greatest new Hammond players to show up in the past few decades! Brit James Taylor is a master of the keys – expanding his sound over the years from funky Jimmy Smith/Jimmy McGriff type grooves, into a mode that ecompassed a lot of the changes in sounds that took place during the 70s. This excellent set gives you a great look at the rich range of Taylor's talents – and includes tracks that were on some of his albums for the Acid Jazz label, plus rarer bits from singles that are long out of print. Tracks include "Europa", "3 Mile Island", "Green Onions", "Mrs Robinson", "Redneck", "Black Gun (live)", "Untitled part 2", "Fourth Dimension", "Journey", "Love The Life (live)", "It's Your World", "Good Thing", "Summer Fantasy", "Starting Too Slow (live)", "The Stooge", and "Hatiain Breakdown/Starsky & Hutch".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Dimitri From Paris

Yellow/Atlantic, 1995. Used
Classic first by the enigmatic Dimitri – one of the first modern artists to take the bachelor pad sound of the 50s, and transform it into funky grooves for the 90s. The whole thing's got a wonderfully loungey sound – with nice bits of Frenchiness and downtempo beats, plus other jazzy ... CD

All In The Mind
Henry Street/Big Beat, 1995. Used
A killer set from the young Kenny Dope – one of his first big-name projects of the 90s, and a great showcase for his already-mature approach to a groove! There's echoes here of the indie east coast club scene of a few years before – some of the soul of New Jersey, and the playful ... CD
Infracom (Germany), 2001. Used
Warm keyboards, and a nice touch of classic house! There's some great spacey keys over the top of most of the album – with spare, soulful beats underneath, almost in a mid 80s Chicago mode, but with nicer and slower, beats and a more spacious sound overall. A number of tracks have female ... CD
Irma (Italy), 1997. Used
A nice batch of funky keyboard tracks that brings to mind the early days of the James Taylor Quartet. Some nice instrumentals with organ and electric keyboards, and a good Italian funk sound behind him. Tracks include "Funky Trousers", "Havana Strut", "Timeless", and ... CD

Between Here & Now
Guidance, 2002. Used
Nicer than the usual set of beats from Guidance – a strong bunch of tunes with some nice jazzy touches, especially on keyboards! A few of the tracks are a bit too abstract, but there's some very nice numbers on here that keep a really soulful groove – keys soloing upfront, percussion ... CD

Ludovic Navarre (aka St Germain)

From Detroit To St Germain
F Communications (France), Early/Mid 90s. Used
Early work by Ludovic Navarre – an artist who's now known to the world as St Germain, the funky French house artist who's done so much great work with Blue Note samples! This set brings together earlier singles by Navarre – titles either issued under his name or under that of St ... CD

Ennio Morricone

Morricone 2000
Dagored (Italy), Late 60s/Early 70s. Used
A great compilation of Morricone tracks – and one that includes excellent material that never shows up on other collections of his work! This one pulls tracks from a handful of lesser-known films – most of which are no longer available on CD reissue, and nearly all of which feature ... CD
Blue Note, 1957. Used
One of the greatest Sonny Rollins records ever! The set is a legendary batch of trio tracks that feature Sonny working in a format that is incredibly free for the time, and which show him as more of a modernist than a bopper – although his solos are still pretty darn fantastic from a bop ... CD
