We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Children Of The Night
MCA, 1985. Very Good
Catchy soul from the mid 80s scene – one of the more mainstream efforts from a group who could also be a bit jazzy at times! The album's still got a quality that's better than most of the chart work of the period – a bit more of that British bounce at the bottom, even though the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Let's Fall In Love
Date, Late 60s. Very Good
Yes, yes, yes – we all know the group from later years and their big hit at the end of the 70s, but back in the late 60s, they were an excellent uptown soul duo who forged some slight fame with work like this, sweet soul versions of standards and pop tunes, arranged in a strong New York style ... Curtom, 1978. Very Good+
The standout classic from Curtom disco diva Linda Clifford – and an album that showed that Chicago could rival Philly in the clubby groove department! Linda has a proud presence that really matches that of her better-known sisters in the City Of Brotherly Love – and she's singing here ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stang, 1973. Very Good-
A great little record by The Moments – and actually one of their best LPs for Stang! It's supposedly a "best of" – but the record's really more of a solid album all the way through, with many tracks that aren't really big hits or anything. The group's harmonies are in great ... Good High
Bang, 1976. Very Good
A killer debut from Brick – the start of a massive run at the end of the 70s, a time when the group was easily one of the biggest acts to come out of the up-and-coming Atlanta scene! Like some other Atlanta acts of the time, Brick had a way of fusing older funky soul on a tighter modern ... LP, Vinyl record album
