Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Touch
Columbia, 1981. Very Good+
Gladys Knight & The Pips sounding fresh and revitalized for the 80s on Touch from '81 – a batch of tunes both produced and penned by Ashford & Simpson! It's a pretty sweet mix of clean grooving, smoothed out soul gems and others with some strings and kind of bigger arrangements that ... LP, Vinyl record album
I Feel A Song
Buddah, 1974. Very Good+
Rock-solid Buddah work from Gladys Knight & The Pips – still pretty righteous on the vocal tip, but often a bit fuller and more polished than before! Knight shows a great talent for a mature ballad here – no big hits, but that's part of the charm of the set – as there's a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Different Moods Of Me
MCA, 1978. Very Good+ Gatefold
A pretty sweet little solo album by Lonnie Jordan – a key War member during the group's biggest fame. The album lives up to its title, and serves up a number of different musical styles, all with Lonnie on keyboards and vocals – but the best work is the stuff that's still in the War-typ ... Masterjam
MCA, 1979. Very Good+ Gatefold
A definite masterjam from Chaka Khan and Rufus – one of the group's last key efforts together – produced to perfection by the mighty Quincy Jones! Galaxy
MCA, 1977. Very Good+
A massive jammer from War – and a record that brought the group to a whole new generation of listeners – as well as a good number of later fans who discovered some of these jams in the club! The groove here isn't disco, but this tightening up of War's sweet jamming vibe – almost ... LP, Vinyl record album
MCA, 1981. Very Good+
Great later work from Rufus – working here without Chaka Khan on vocals, but sounding even jazzier as a result! There almost seems to be more emphasis on the instrumentation than before – and the album's got a warmly funky groove that definitely carries on the 70s Rufus tradition, but ... Knock On Wood
Stax, 1967. Very Good
A legendary set from Eddie Floyd – the southern soul singer's first-ever album, and still the one that defines the sound of his career! The set was issued on Stax, but also helped to shape the sound of Atlantic Records soul in the 60s – a powerful bridge that crossed over big at the ... LP, Vinyl record album
New Vibrations
Okeh, 1966. Very Good+
Killer Okeh soul by this great group from the 60s! The record covers both sides of The Vibrations' bag – from mellow moody vocal group standards, to uptempo groovers – of the sort that have always made the group a favorite with the Northern Soul scene! The album's a nice departure ... LP, Vinyl record album

MCA, 1981. Very Good
A totally massive set from One Way – a record that has them sounding even better than ever – drawing on all the strengths of the previous few records, and really knocking it out of the park! Everything In Place
Columbia, 1981. Very Good+
Great work from Tyrone Davis' under-recognized years at Columbia Records – a wonderful set of mature modern soul numbers that really let the singer find a whole new groove!
