Bold work from Max Roach – great material from the piano-less quartet that features Odean Pope on tenor and Cecil Bridgewater on trumpet! The style here follows strongly from Roach's Horo and Japanese recordings of the late 70s – as the album features one long track, with plenty of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Historic Concerts indeed – as the meeting of Max and Cecil Taylor must have been quite an event! As he did on other late 70s sessions – particularly those with Archie Shepp and Anthony Braxton – Max proves that he's quite willing to experiment, and works beautifully in the spare, ... Max Roach continues the fine line of work with his fresh-voiced quartet of the early 80s – a very hip group that features a young Odeon Pope on tenor, plus Cecil Bridgewater on trumpet and Calvin Hill on bass! The work's similar to Roach's quartet sessions of the late 70s, although perhaps a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Art Blakey in the 80s has just as much magic as in the 60s and 70s – and an album like this is key proof of that fact! The album's got a flowing, easygoing groove that's really great – kind of an extension of modes that Blakey first started hitting during the Prestige years – ... LP, Vinyl record album

The group features no piano at all – just Varner's flugelhorn and the alto sax of Ed Jackson, out front of bass by Fred Hopkins and drums from Billy ... LP, Vinyl record album
The musical partnership of Walt Dickerson and Andrew Cyrille is one that stretches back to the 60s – and with the presence of bassist Sirone on this set, they really hit some new musical heights! Dickerson's vibes here have that flowing, open quality from his best later years – an ... LP, Vinyl record album
A sweet and loungey set of tunes – played by Don on the Hammond X-77, as he might have before a weekend crowd at Denver's Passport Ltd! Most of the cuts on the album are covers of late 60s pop hits – like "Aquarius", "Look Of Love", "Watermelon Man", and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Amazing late 70s work from Charles Earland – quite different material than his contemporaneous sets for Mercury and Columbia, and much more the rootsy soul jazz he first cut at Prestige! The tracks are long, and filled with rhythms – that undeniable Earland groove, which is laid out ... LP, Vinyl record album
