Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

A great package – one that focuses not on the oft-reissued Verve Records material by Ella Fitzgerald, but on her earlier Decca sides from the postwar years – 39 tracks in all, with a good mix of bop and swing! CD

Mark Murphy

Lucky To Be Me
High Note, 2002. Used
Great new work from Mark Murphy – a real no-nonsense, back-to-basics session that really recalls the greatness of some of his 70s classics. The set's got small combo backing, and Mark's doing a fair bit of traditional jazz standards – but the feel of the album is wonderful, gently ... CD

Jackie Ryan

Doozy
Open Art, 2009. Used 2 CDs
A wonderful 2CD set from Jackie Ryan – a contemporary California vocalist, but one who sings with a really classic sort of groove! The album reminds us a lot of Bay Area jazz gems from the 70s – warm and soulful, with an easygoing groove that draws heavily from the instrumental work of ... CD

Sing Along With Basie (Japanese pressing)
Roulette (Japan), 1958. Used
One of the more obscure albums by Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross – a session of Basie tunes, performed with backing by the Count, plus additional lead vocals by Joe Williams, the voice most closely associated with the Basie group at the time! The style is similar to the trio's Sing A Song Of ... CD

Love Shout
Prestige, 1963. Used
Extra-soulful magic from Etta Jones – a great little session for Prestige that has her singing with Kenny Burrell on all tracks, working with a varied lineup of musicians that includes Larry Young on organ on about half the tracks, and piano from Detroit modernist Kenny Cox on the others! ... CD
Mercury/Universal (France), 1958. Used Gatefold
A really rich album by Sarah Vaughan – recorded in Paris in 1958, with orchestrations by Quincy Jones – and large group backing that includes some great tenor work by Zoot Sims! The session's one of Vaughan's most cohesive albums of the period, and although it's got "violins" ... CD
