Used Vinyl Grades
Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for
the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl.
If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws,
these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that
since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with
the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records
are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible

to listen through them and note how they play.
The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
A classic of spiritual jazz! The album is one of the few rare pairings of Sonny Simmons and Prince Lasha from the 60s – and it's arguably the greatest album they ever cut! The set was recorded for the Contemporary label in LA, but it's far far different than the cool jazz that was the label' ... LP, Vinyl record album
A rare American release by British trumpeter Jimmy Deuchar – one of the leading lights of the UK jazz scene of the 50s. Deuchar had a really great talent for getting a larger group to groove with the razor sharp edge of a smaller combo – and you'll hear that talent used to full effect ... LP, Vinyl record album
Sublime work from this oft-overlooked alto player – a wonderful album that features Lennie playing in quintets with Bill Perkins, Bob Gordon, Stu Williamson, and Hampton Hawes – plus added string quartet backings on most of the tunes – making for a shimmering sound that's really ... Surprisingly nice stuff – especially considering that the album was one in a string of Previn piano sessions for Contemporary – all based around Broadway themes as part of the success of his My Fair Lady date with Shelly Manne! This set still features Manne on drums – and Red ... LP, Vinyl record album
This album was the 7th in the Contemporary series of "Shelly Manne & His Men", but it's also easily the best, and features some of the most exciting playing of any of Manne's groups. The success of the whole album comes down to Charlie Mariano, who wrote a large number of the tracks, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Andre Previn's got some very hip pals here – drummer Shelly Manne and bassist Red Mitchell – both frequent partners during the late 50s, especially on this classic run of jazz-Broadway records for Contemporary! The spirit here is very much like that of the famous My Fair Lady date made ... LP, Vinyl record album
The quintessential sound of late 60s Horace Silver – on one hand still very much in the Blue Note soul jazz groove that earned him plenty of jukebox single play, but on the other hand really stretching out with a style that's a bit more righteous than before! Horace shows that he can still ... LP, Vinyl record album
A killer session from Horace's famous quintet that included Blue Mitchell, Junior Cook, Gene Taylor, and Louis Hayes – and one of the group's earliest recordings for Blue Note. The band had a unique mix of rootsy soul jazz playing and more exotic approaches to arranging, and they managed to ... LP, Vinyl record album
A monster batch of funky tracks from organist Lonnie Smith! The album's his first ever – and predates the Blue Note sides by a few years – issued by Columbia around the time that Lonnie was working for the label as George Benson's organist. Lonnie brings a rawness to the album that ... LP, Vinyl record album
Obscure direct to disc recording that plays at 45 RPM, which means that it's a bit shorter than usual – but the record more than makes up for that defect with its excellent sound and (more importantly) excellent batch of grooves. Cal's vibes are backed by Clare Fischer on electric piano, ... LP, Vinyl record album
