Ms Bu

LP (Item 5002) Muse, 1973 — Condition: Near Mint-

This is the only album we've ever seen by this obscure east coast female organist, and it's somewhere between work by Trudy Pitts and Shirley Scott, with a little bit of the hip twist that was going down in New Jersey at the time of the recording. Bu sings a bit, but it's mostly organ grooves, and Harold Vick sits in playing some nice tenor. Cuts include a long groovin' version of "Summertime", plus "Opus for O.P.", "Bells for Bu", and "Melody for Bu".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a cutout notch.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Woody Shaw & Anthony Braxton

Iron Men
Muse, 1981. Very Good+
Shaw and Braxton are an unlikely pair of fronliners – as one's got a soulful modal style, and the other's a colder modernist – but they work surprisingly well together on this album, which mixes players throughout the album, by adding in Muhal Richard Abrams, Cecil McBee, Arthur Blythe, ... Cindy Blackman

Arcane
Muse, 1988. Near Mint-
An excellent hard bop side from the late 80s, an era when the new "young lions" were getting a lot of press, and some nice recordings were being made with any eye on the future while their feet were firmly planted in tradition. This set features two players of Cindy's generation in the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Setting Standards
Muse, 1983. Near Mint-
A lovely record from Woody – one of his excellent and understated sides from the early 80s, recorded with a quartet that includes Cedar Walton on piano, Buster Williams on bass, and Victor Jones on drums. Harvest
Muse, 1979. Very Good+
A very nice record that bassist Davis did for Muse in the late 70s. As with previous recordings he works closely with fellow bass player Bill Lee. Intuition
Muse, 1988. Near Mint-
A great late 80s session by trumpeter Wallace Roney – bold, and strongly-blown – proof that he was clearly one of the most striking young trumpet talents of his generation! Sketches Of Spain

A beautiful collaboration between Miles Davis and the great Gil Evans – and perhaps the most perfectly realized of all their projects!
