That Special Part Of Me

LP (Item 499237) MCA/Zebra, 1988 — Condition: Near Mint-
With Onaje Allen Gumbs on piano and synthesizers, Anthony Cox on bass, Roger Byam on soprano sax, Andres Laprida on guitar, Victor Lewis on drums, and Don Alias on percussion.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Deodato

Whirlwinds
MCA, 1974. Very Good+ Gatefold
Sweet keyboard soul from Deodato – a set that steps off nicely from the strengths of his big hits on CTI, hitting a similarly flowing groove that's really great! The instrumentation here is a bit more expanded than before, but never in a way that buries the keyboards – and Deodato's ... LP, Vinyl record album
Impulse/MCA, 1961. Near Mint-
Killer stuff by Art Blakey – one of his few non-Blue Note sessions from the time, and a hard-wailing set that features the Jazz Messengers as a sextet! The format is one that flourished briefly in these early 60s years – and in this case, the already great lineup of Lee Morgan on ... LP, Vinyl record album
MCA, 1985. Near Mint-
With Gerardo Velez on percussion, Julio Fernandez on guitar, Kim Stone on bass, Dave Samuels on vibraphone and marimba, Richie Morales on drums, Tom Schuman on Keyboards, and Jay Beckenstein on saxophone. LP, Vinyl record album

Crusaders

Street Life
MCA, 1979. Near Mint-
One of our favorite albums ever from The Crusaders – a set that really sums up all the tightness they'd forged in the 70s, while still showing a new sense of soul and funk as well – expertly balanced with flawless LA production! The album may well be the group's equivalent of a Steely ... LP, Vinyl record album

(Back cover has ring wear and a promo stamp.) LP, Vinyl record album

Joe Sample

Voices In The Rain
MCA, 1980. Near Mint- Gatefold
Joe Sample's sitting at a grand piano on the cover, and that image is a nice tip-off to the sound within – an approach that has Joe hitting some more sophisticated acoustic passages at points, while still opening up into the soulful groove we'd expect from his legacy as a core member of The ... Deodato

Artistry
MCA, 1974. Near Mint-
A live set from Deodato – but one that's very much in the mode of his best CTI studio sessions – with soaring, over the top keyboard work that's totally great – backed by some tightly compressed guitar, bass, and drums, with just enough funk in the mix to keep things interesting! ... Mercer Ellington

Black & Tan Fantasy
MCA, 1958. Near Mint- Gatefold

Nautilus/MCA, 1979. Near Mint- Gatefold
LP...$9.99 19.99
Great later blowing from John Klemmer – clear, clean, and extremely well-focused – with nary a dull moment throughout! The album's a mostly acoustic one – save for some keyboards from Milcho Leviev – and the sound is tremendous, very much in keeping with the farther-reaching ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jimmy Smith

Monster
Verve, Late 60s. Very Good- Gatefold
Totally cool Jimmy Smith album that has him playing a lot of funky groovy versions of TV and Film themes, like "Goldfinger", "Theme From The Munsters", "Theme From Man With the Golden Arm", and "Theme From Bewitched". Oliver Nelson leads a large band and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lou Donaldson

Blues Walk
Blue Note, 1958. Very Good
A pivotal album in the career of saxophonist Lou Donaldson – a set that really has him finding his own groove – a slow-stepping, soul-drenched mode that's a nice change from the bop of his roots! A key part of the record's charm is conga work by Ray Barretto – a player used often ... LP, Vinyl record album

Raul De Souza

Sweet Lucy
Capitol, 1977. Very Good
Sweet Lucy, and mighty groovy – a wonderful album from Raul De Souza, cut during the height of his fame on the California scene! Like Raul's other work for Capitol, this record really sparkles from tight help from George Duke – who handles production, and some of the arrangements ... LP, Vinyl record album
