Let's Go Latin American

LP (Item 498482) Vik, 1957 — Condition: Very Good-
Titles include "Vacilon", "Negra Soy", "Mujer", "Samba Roll", "El Gato Montes", "Noche De Ronda", and "La Mocura".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original pressing with deep groove. Cover has some wear & aging, clear tape on the top seam, name in marker on the back.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Classic stuff by Noro – and a wonderful selection of hard to find material from the 50s! This isn't really a greatest hits album – but it is a good sampling of some of his better (and better-recorded) work during the postwar years, and almost all of the tracks have a nice hard groove ... Noro Morales

Ritmos Del Caribe
Marvela (Puerto Rico), Early 60s. Very Good+

RCA, 1956. Very Good+
Great stuff by Noro – featuring his haunting piano lines spun out over spare backing by percussion only, in a manner that you don't always find on his other recordings. A few tracks have larger orchestrations, but they're still pretty darn tight, and have a great hard sound to them. The set' ... LP, Vinyl record album
Columbia, 1965. Very Good
A really pivotal album in the career of Mongo Santamaria – one that has Mongo stripping down the groove, kicking up some jazz, and mixing together soulful styles that brought him to the top of the Latin crowd of the 1960s! There's a tightness here that goes beyond any of Santamaria's ... LP, Vinyl record album

David Le Winter

Evening At The Pump Room
Mercury, 1958. Very Good
Although the big New York hotels had their share of great Latin pianists, Chicago had it's own great one during the 50s – in the person of the little-known David Le Winter, a supremely talented pianist who seems to have only cut this one album for Mercury during the 50s. The record itself is ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jack Costanzo

Latin Fever
Liberty, Late 50s. Very Good+
One of the greatest albums of Latin Jazz ever recorded on the west coast during the 50s – and a landmark session from Jack "Mr Bongo" Costanzo! The album well earns its "fever" claim – as the set smokes from the very first note – Jack's bongos calling the pace ... LP, Vinyl record album

Xavier Cugat & His Orchestra

Mambo!
Mercury, 1956. Very Good+
Classic Cugat mambos, with a nice hard sound that would sound right in the Catskills or the Palladium! The whole darn thing's got that nice "umph" feel that you'll find in his best 50s recordings – and tracks include "Park Avenue Mambo", "Sun! Sun!", "Mambo ... LP, Vinyl record album
