Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Cecil Taylor/Buell Neidlinger

New York City R&B
Candid (UK), 1961. Used
An early 60s session by Cecil Taylor for Candid, and a record that's one of our favorites by him from the early years! Despite the seemingly odd use of the term "R&B" in the title, the record's actually got a sound that's a bit more soulful than usual for Cecil, with surprising use ... CD
Candid (UK), 1960. Used
Rare French material from Lucky Thompson – and a set of tracks that really shows a lot of artistic growth overseas since his better-known Paris dates of the mid 50s! The setting is relatively spare – a quartet with Martial Solal on piano, Peter Trunk on bass, and Kenny Clarke on drums ... CD

Don Ellis

Out Of Nowhere
Candid (UK), 1961. Used
A very unusual set by Don Ellis – and easily one of his most modern recordings ever! The set was done at the same time as Don's other album for Candid, but wasn't issued until many years later – and it's a compelling trio outing that has the trumpet of Ellis in an airy trio with Paul ... CD

Charles Mingus

Pithecanthropus Erectus
Atlantic, 1957. Used
An amazing record – quite possibly one of the greatest jazz albums of all time, and a session that has Charles Mingus stepping boldly forward in a whole new direction! The album shakes loose the sometimes too-academic modern tones of Mingus albums from the previous year or two – and ... CD
Impulse, 1963. Used
The title's exploding with Mingus, and the album is too – a completely classic effort for Impulse Records that's easily one of Charles' best of the 60s! Things are reigned in somewhat from the Mingus years at Atlantic or Candid, but the sound is still great – almost more focused than ... CD

Philadelphia International/Sony, 1975. Used
Teddy Pendergrass and crew get a bit more political than on earlier releases, and adopt the righteous bubbling soul groove that had put the O'Jays over the top a few years earlier – with incredible results! The title cut – "Wake Up Everybody" – would prove to be a great ... CD
Columbia, 2000. Used
It's been 8 years since Sade's last album, but rest assured, she's still pretty much the same! Her vocals are as lovely as ever – with that indescribable floating quality that always sends us, no matter how many times we've heard her songs on the radio. The production is slightly different ...
