✈
The mellow soul of Bill Withers is always a treat – and although this best of collection is released on Columbia, it also features tracks from Bill's stellar early days at Sussex, when he was turning out some of the most quietly revolutionary soul of the decade! Bill's voice is one of the most instantly recognizable in soul music – with a sweet raspy quality that always gets us, and which is often mixed with breezy acoustic guitar playing, and warm Fender Rhodes keyboard work. Nearly every cut's a winner – and the set features classics like "Lovely Day", "Who Is He & What Is He To You", "Ain't No Sunshine", "Use Me", "Grandma's Hands", "Lean On Me", "Hello Like Before", "Just The Two Of Us", and "I Want To Spend The Night".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Give Me The Reason
Columbia/Epic, 1986. Used
Luther Vandross at the top of his game – sitting right at the height of that crossover space in soul he virtually owned back in the mid 80s! The work here is certainly more commercial than Vandross albums of the past, but the soul is no less deep – thanks to Luther's amazing vocal ... CD

Boz Scaggs

Silk Degrees
Columbia, 1976. Used
Blue-eyed soul from Boz Scaggs, with a decidedly Philly influenced sound to the production, which we'd hazard a guess comes more from the Hall & Oates side of town than the Sigma Sound axis. Still, this is a solid album with the irresistible hit "Lowdown", still a favorite around ... CD

Columbia, 1988. Used
What's Bootsy Doin'? He's delivering quality late 80s style party funk, that's what! Bootsy in a real 80s funk groove, and this is among is best solo records – lots of post electro and early rap influences in his production, but there's still some old school-ed craft – with Fred, ... CD

A record so big they dropped the "Ross" from Diana's name – just to show how large the lady was living at the end of the 70s! The album was a key set in the solo years of Diana's career – a back to basics dancefloor effort done with impeccable production by Bernard Edwards ... CD
