Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so.
These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play,
but might detract from the looks.
May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be
intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under
the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record.
(Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
Possible minor surface noise when played.
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
A double-length, ultra-cool set from saxophonist Phil Woods – yet another aspect of his great body of work from the 70s, and a live date that features Woods at the head of a sextet! The group here features acoustic piano, electric guitar, bass, drums, and percussion – all used in ways ... LP, Vinyl record album
Great stuff! Phils Woods plays reeds over a cool crazy band of Greek players who are trying to do a "jazz meets Zorba the Greek" thing here. Sounds crazy, but the record's actually great, and has a mix of styles that comes together in an amazing way. We always used to pass this up, but ... LP, Vinyl record album
Way more than just a traditional "battle of the saxes" sort of set – hardly the bop frenzy you might expect, and instead a great little record that's right up there with the hippest 70s work of Eric Kloss! Both Cole and Kloss dominate the record – one in the right channel, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Back to basics work from Willis Jackson – a live date recorded in France at the start of the 80s, but one that's done with a soul jazz vibe that recalls his 60s concert sets for Prestige! The group here is a quartet, with Richard Groove Holmes on Hammond – and the tracks are long and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Nothing too mad here, but a wonderful record that really shows the genius of Richie Cole in the 70s! Cole on Muse is a wonderful combination – sharp-edged alto sax, rooted in tradition – but let loose on some freer soul jazz modes as well, really showing the strong jazz underground ... LP, Vinyl record album
An 80s issue of amazing early work from the hip team of Tony Scott and Bill Evans – Scott blowing modernist clarinet, with great piano from Bill – and rhythm from Jimmy Garrison on bass and Pete LaRoca on drums. Titles include "Garrison's Raiders", "Stella By ... LP, Vinyl record album
A cooker from DC tenorist Buck Hill – one of those great local players who never got their due strongly until late in life! Buck's got a tremendous sound on his horn – full and rich in feeling, with occasional raspy edges that really grab us, and a warm command of his instrument that ... LP, Vinyl record album
A 70s set from Willis Jackson – but one that has him working in the same groovy array of rhythms and phrasings brought to his best 60s work on Prestige! The group here features two familiar factors from before – Pat Martino on guitar and Carl Wilson on organ – both really ... LP, Vinyl record album
A nice later date as a leader from the great trumpeter Bill Hardman – better-known for his earlier work with Art Blakey! The set features Junior Cook on tenor, Slide Hampton on trombone, and Walter Bishop Jr on piano – and titles include "Avila & Tequila", "Cubicle&qu ... LP, Vinyl record album
