Village

LP (Item 496497) MCA/Impulse, 1987 — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP Gatefold

Titles include "What's Up", "Beautiful She Is", "Joanna", "The Village", "Music Came", "Soft Platonicism", and "Expressions Of Quietude".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a cutout notch.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Impulse, 1966/1978. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Way more than just another 70s 2-fer of earlier work by a 60s group – as this entire set was unreleased until this issue – and stands as a perfect counterpart to the other Village album issued by Albert Ayler on impulse! Ayler's brother Don is on trumpet, and the rest of the group ... LP, Vinyl record album

Keith Jarrett

Byablue
Impulse, 1976. Near Mint-
There's a nicely warming vibe on this album from Keith Jarrett – a sound that's sometimes a bit more laidback and personal, but which is still carried off with familiar associates Dewey Redman on tenor, Charlie Haden on bass, and Paul Motian on drums! Most of the tunes are shorter ... LP, Vinyl record album

Keith Jarrett

Fort Yawuh
Impulse, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
Great Impulse work from Keith Jarrett – recorded at a time when he had a lot sharper edge than later years, and was really matching the spirit of some of the post-Coltrane generation players on the label! The date's a live one, and features some relatively extended tracks – tunes that ... LP, Vinyl record album
Impulse, 1965. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
One of a late 70's series of unissued takes from 'Trane's Impulse years. This set features the "classic" quartet with McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison & Elvin Jones, augmented by Art Davis as a second bassist on a couple of tracks. It's clear from the material here that Coltrane was on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Phil Woods

Greek Cooking
Impulse, Mid 60s. Very Good+ Gatefold
Great stuff! Phils Woods plays reeds over a cool crazy band of Greek players who are trying to do a "jazz meets Zorba the Greek" thing here. Sounds crazy, but the record's actually great, and has a mix of styles that comes together in an amazing way. We always used to pass this up, but ... LP, Vinyl record album
Impulse, 1961. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A great entry in this sweet 70s series – one that brings together unreleased material from John Coltrane's key years at Impulse Records! The set features the first issue of a number of Village Vanguard tracks recorded in 1961 with Eric Dolphy in the group on alto and bass clarinet – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stanley Turrentine

Let It Go
Impulse, 1966. Near Mint- Gatefold
A rare non-Blue Note 60s date as a leader from Stanley Turrentine – recorded for Impluse when his (then) wife Shirley Scott was contracted to the label – and featuring the talents of both players on some very groovy tracks! The quartet features both Stan's tenor and Shirley's Hammond ... LP, Vinyl record album
Impulse, 1969. Very Good Gatefold
Wonderful open-ended Ahmad Jamal music from the end of the 60s – and a set that really shows his growth as a player at the time! The "revisited" in the title refers to Jamal's earlier success on Argo records with a recording of "Poinciana" – one that forever made ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pee Wee Russell & Oliver Nelson

Spirit Of 67
Impulse, 1967. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of the great albums that Pee Wee Russell recorded for Impulse during the late 60's, when they brought him back for some great comeback LPs in a number of different settings. This one has him playing as the main soloist with Oliver Nelson's orchestra. As with most of Nelson's work from the 60's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sonny Rollins

Bridge
RCA, 1962. Near Mint-
A landmark album from Sonny Rollins – one that marked his comeback in the early 60s, after a brief period of retirement, and which also initiated a string of incredible recordings with guitarist Jim Hall. Given Hall's gentleness and spare modernity on the guitar, a fan of Rollins' hard-blowin ... LP, Vinyl record album

Joe Farrell

Moon Germs
CTI, 1973. Near Mint-
One of the best records ever cut by funky sax man Joe Farrell! The album's got a stripped down, choppy groove – virtually the blueprint for later 70s funk of this type, and played perfectly by Farrell and a very hip quartet lineup! Players include Joe on soprano and tenor sax, Herbie ... LP, Vinyl record album

Amiri Baraka (Leroi Jones)

New Music-New Poetry
India Navigation, 1981. Near Mint-
