A new age title, but a great straight-ahead set from Ahmad Jamal – played with all the fluidity of his many years in jazz! The cover image might be a bit misleading, and make you think there's something space age or electric about the record – but Jamal's on an acoustic Steinway throughout – playing with rich tonal colors and a great sense of space and timing – one that expands warmly on ideas explored during earlier years, and offers a whole new take on the Jamal sound without resorting to tricks, gimmicks, or added electricity. The group features James Cammack on bass, David Bowler on drums, and Willie White on percussion – adding some earthier tones and more complicated rhythms to the album's best tracks. Titles include "For My Daughter", "Avo", "Arabesque", "Quest For Light", "Perugia", and "The Last Day".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Brilliant work by Jamal – and one of his first albums to feature electric piano! The mode of the tracks is in that "stretching out" style he was using as the 60s came to a close – a bit inspired by McCoy Tyner, but more an exploration of the lyricism of his earlier work, set ... CD

Wild and wonderful work by Keith Jarrett – light years away from his records on ECM! The album features a quartet that includes Dewey Redman on tenor, Charlie Haden on bass, and Paul Motian on drums – but it's clearly Keith who's driving the bus here, taking lots of odd twists and ... CD

Journey Within
Atlantic (Japan), 1967. Used
A great 60s moment not just for reedman Charles Lloyd, but also for pianist Keith Jarrett – who was a key part of Charles' group for a few years at the time – and who really opens up on this classic set! Tracks are long and very open – reaching in a spiritual sort of way with ... CD
