Bitter Sweet

LP (Item 4958) RCA, 1972 — Condition: Very Good
Gatefold

One of Main Ingredient's great early albums, and the one that includes the big hit "Everybody Plays the Fool", one of the all-time great AM radio soul classics! Nice east coast group soul throughout, with that slightly heavy production style the band was hitting at the time. Packaged in a nice uni-pack cover, and with the tracks "No Tears", "Fly Baby Fly", "You've Got to Take It", and "I Can't See Me Without You".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some ring & edge wear and unglued top and bottom seams.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

RCA/Burger King, 1974. Very Good
A very cool collection – a special Burger King giveaway album of music by the Main Ingredient! It's kind of amazing that they were so big at the time to warrant such a promo deal – but we're not complaining – just enjoying tracks that include "Black Seeds Keep On ... LP, Vinyl record album

Soul Train Gang

Soul Train Gang
Soul Train/RCA, 1976. Very Good+
Although it would be easy to write these guys off as a cheapo product emblazoned with the Soul Train name to cash in on the fame of the TV show, the gang's actually a pretty decent harmony soul act, and they really benefit from strong Norman Harris production on this LP. The ensemble features 2 ... LP, Vinyl record album

New Birth

Birth Day
RCA, 1972. Near Mint-
Great early stuff by the New Birth – with a sound that's a lot funkier than some of their other records! The sound of the album shows how the band had a great formula for taking original tracks and covers, and redoing them with their unique group sound that gave them a good party feel. This ... Get In Touch
RCA, 1979. Very Good+
Harmony soul, retooled for the discos – as most of the tracks on this self-produced set feature strident grooves that must have been aimed at the clubs. The sound's pretty good overall, though, thanks to some great vocals. Luther Vandross is listed in the vocal credits – although we ... LP, Vinyl record album

Memphis Menu
RCA, 1972. Near Mint- Gatefold
An excellent album from Jose Feliciano – recorded with a lot of Memphis soul influences, as the title indicates, but still with that beautifullly jazzy style that he was using in his earlier LA recordings.
