New Chautauqua

LP (Item 495719) ECM, 1979 — Condition: Near Mint-
A completely solo album from Pat Metheny – but one that still sparkles with the same sort of energy as his fuller group sessions for ECM! At a point when Pat could be content to simply scrawl a few simple lines on the strings of his guitar, he instead does a great job of complicating things here – working with a bit of overdub to explode in fuller sounds that are totally great – played on acoustic and electric guitars, including 6, 12, and 15 stringed versions – as well as a bit of bass. Titles include "Hermitage", "Daybreak", "Sueno Con Mexico", "New Chautauqua", and "Country Poem".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(US pressing.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Pat Metheny

American Garage
ECM, 1979. Near Mint-
A brilliantly evocative album from Pat Metheny – one that's got a quietly epic feel, as Pat and group soar out across the American landscape in a set of tunes that subtly explore space and sound while still remaining wonderfully fluid. There's nothing forced here, and nothing too slick ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pat Metheny

First Circle
ECM, 1984. Near Mint-
Arguably the last great album to come from the classic Pat Metheny collaboration with Lyle Mays – a record that's tightened up considerably from some of the group's earlier efforts, but which gives as its reward some wonderfully compelling tunes! Pat's still very much influenced here by a ... LP, Vinyl record album

John Abercrombie/Dave Holland/Jack DeJohnette

Gateway
ECM, 1975. Near Mint-
A whole new kind of trio session for the 70s – one that has the airy, open lines of guitarist John Abercrombie stretching out nicely in the company of drummer Jack DeJohnette and bassist Dave Holland! The music is archetypal ECM work of the time – a complete contrast to a guitar trio ... LP, Vinyl record album

Keith Jarrett

Hymns/Spheres
ECM, 1976. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A very unusual record – one that has Keith Jarrett playing some solo organ – and a baroque organ at that – but in ways that are quite different than you might expect! The sounds here are amazing – almost noisy at points, as Jarrett really works the instrument in an ... LP, Vinyl record album

John Abercrombie

Arcade
ECM, 1978. Near Mint-
A record full of rich tones and cascadingly lyrical lines – and a set that features the wonderful pairing of John Abercrombie's guitar and the piano of Richie Beirach! Barre Phillips

Mountainscapes
ECM, 1976. Near Mint-
A very different setting than some of the more spacious Barre Phillips albums of the 70s – as this set has him working in a mixed electric/acoustic mode – with a core quartet that features John Surman on baritone, soprano, and bass clarinet – plus Stu Martin on drums and Dieter ... Keith Jarrett

Dark Intervals
ECM (Germany), 1988. Near Mint-
A live performance from pianist Keith Jarrett, recorded at Suntory Hall in Tokyo – but one that's a bit different than some of the solo sets that came earlier in his career, as it's got both a different sound and different style overall! The tracks here aren't side-long improvisations, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gary Burton & Chick Corea

Crystal Silence
ECM, 1972. Near Mint-
Mellow vibes and spacious piano – a 70s classic from the team of Chick Corea and Gary Burton, serving up some of their finest work of the decade! The style is a bit mellower and more contemplative than some of Chick's harder-hitting fusion of the time – and he seems to nicely borrow a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ralph Towner

Diary
ECM, 1974. Very Good
A beautifully personal album from Ralph Towner – a set that's maybe got more going on than just a diary – as the whole thing has a very poetic approach to the sound, one that's really in keeping with the new modes of expression that Towner helped bring to ECM! There's a bit of overdub ... LP, Vinyl record album

Solstice
ECM, 1975. Near Mint-
