Judgment! (RVG remaster edition)

CD (Item 494716) Blue Note, 1964 — Condition: Used
$17.99 ...

CD

A seminal "new thing" session from pianist Andrew Hill, and one of the greatest performances ever from a young Bobby Hutcherson! The record features a stunning quartet that includes Hill on piano, Hutcherson on vibes, and Richard Davis and Elvin Jones on rhythm – coming together with the stark, raw energy that made the key Blue Note modern sides from this time so great. Hutcherson hits these amazing tones on the vibes, similar to those that he uses on some of the Jackie McLean albums from the same time – and those tones work perfectly with Hill's fractured piano lines. Titles are all originals by Hill, including "Alfred", "Reconciliation", "Siete Ocho", "Yokada Yokada", and "Flea Flop". CD features a bonus alternate of "Yokada Yokada".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Out of print, BMG music club pressing.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

A wonderful comeback from the great Andrew Hill – a sweet return to the Blue Note label, after dropping off the recording scene a bit at the end of the 70s! Hill first rose to greatness on the label, and returns to the same here too – in a mode that echoes the edges of his "new ... CD

Black Fire
Blue Note, 1963. Used
Insanely wonderful music from Andrew Hill – a lean, stripped-down session that has Hill working at his firey best – in a space that's somewhere between the "new thing" recordings of Jackie McLean, and the brooding brilliance of Andrew's later Smokestack session! The group ... CD

Blue Note, 1968. Used
A very sweet, and oft-overlooked session that has Herbie mixing a nice dose of lyricism into his usual soul jazz approach from the 60s! Booker Ervin

Tex Book Tenor
Blue Note, 1968. Used
Amazing later work from Booker Ervin – far more modern and far-reaching than you'd guess from the "Texas" title in the set! Although Ervin first came onto the scene as a strong-voiced tenorist from a Texas tradition, through the course of the 60s he'd really expanded his musical ... CD
