Trio

LP (Item 494038) Savoy, 1955 — Condition: Very Good+
Rock-solid trio work from the Hank Jones group of the 50s – a combo that includes Hank on piano, Wendell Marshall on bass, and Kenny Clarke on drums! The group was the rhythm section on countless dates for Savoy Records at the time, but here they're featured strongly on their own – as a very dynamic outfit that features great interplay between Jones' warm, lyrical approach to the piano – and Kenny Clarke's amazing command of his drum kit! The tunes are often nicely subtle – and Jones is never as over the top as some of his 50s contemporaries, but really manages to show a tremendous ear for a well-crafted line – one that's rompingly rhythmic, but often in somewhat gentle ways. Titles include "Odd Number", "Cyrano", "There's A Small Hotel", "Little Girl Blue", and "We're All Together".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Red label pressing, with RVG etch and deep groove! Cover has light wear, a spot of clear tape at the opening, and a spot of pen on the back.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
