Angel Of The Night

LP (Item 49326) Arista/GRP, 1979 — Condition: Very Good
Gatefold
Sweet jazzy soul from Angie Bofill – recorded in 1979 with Dave Grusin, who gives the album a smooth edge that really works perfectly with her vocals! The set's a perfect blend of the more soulful elements in the fusion scene of the late 70s, combined with Angie's warm vocal style and some excellent songwriting. Titles include "I Try", "Angel Of The Night", "What I Wouldn't Do", "Rainbow Child", "The Voyage", and a great cover of "People Make The World Go Round".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light edge wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Kashif

Kashif (1983)
Arista, 1983. Very Good+
A monumental bit of 80s soul – the first solo album from Kashif, issued hot on the heels of a few years spent penning and producing work for a range of bigger artists! Given his experience with the pros, Kashif's emerging here as a very fully-formed talent in soul – a singer with a way ... LP, Vinyl record album

Aretha Franklin

Get It Right
Arista, 1983. Near Mint-
A real standout from Aretha Franklin's years on Arista – a set produced by Luther Vandross, with a soaring groove that really opens Aretha up nicely! Luther's more in the mode here of his 70s club productions than his 80s hits – that warm, midtempo vibe that's full of lush moments, but ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dionne Warwick

No Night So Long
Arista, 1980. Near Mint-
A key album in Dionne Warwick's career revival at Arista Records – a set that's filled with the kind of fuller sounds and maturing modes that worked quite well for her shifts in styles over the years! Warwick's a bit less fragile than in the Scepter years, but also not trying as hard to be ... LP, Vinyl record album

Michael Masser helmed the set – produced and wrote most of the material – but also with key ... LP, Vinyl record album

Funk In A Mason Jar
Arista, 1977. Very Good+
Smooth soulful jazz from Harvey Mason – one of his strong 70s winners for the Arista album, and a record that really brings a new level of class to his sound! Groovin' You
Arista, 1979. Very Good
One of the best solo records from Harvey Mason – best known as the drummer on some really monster 70s funky fusion sessions (such as Johnny Hammond's Gears album) – but a surprisingly well-rounded R&B artist overall! As with Norman Connors, another fusion drummer gone soul star, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Aretha Franklin

Aretha (1980)
Arista, 1980. Near Mint-
Classy later soul from Aretha Franklin – a set that's free from some of the too-commercial modes of other 80s work, but which still pushes the envelope nicely from her years at Atlantic! Secret Omen
Chocolate City, 1979. Very Good+
A sweet stunner from Cameo – a set that's got the group working with an even tighter, more on the money sound than before – yet never in a way that's too slick or commercial!
