Urban Renewal Program

CD (Item 493181) Chocolate Industries, 2002 — Condition: Used
$4.99 ...

CD

The follow up to the Rapid Transit compilation, a high concept meeting of urban artists (booklet art by Dalek, Delta, Kaws and others) and urban tone generators, rhymers and beat builders. Fourteen tracks to provide a soundtrack to your everyday urban experience, and like other Chocolate releases, this is the meeting place of ingredients previously not blended, but making a fine combo nonetheless. Prefuse 73 drops a beat for Mos Def and Diverse, "Wylin Out", as well as another for Miho Hatori of Cibbo Matto, "Night Light", RJD2 provides one for the Souls Of Mischief on "Spark". Jel and Dos One break away from Clouddead to give us "Thisboutthecitytoo", El-P and Aesop Rock team up for "Train Buffer" (a belated follow up to "End To End Burner"?), DJ Food makes a tribute to clandestine bombing runs with "Aerosoliloque Pts 1-3" and Chicago everymen Tortoise weigh in with "CTA". Also features tracks by While, Caural, Diverse, Mr. Lif and El-P.  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Out of print. Still sealed with slipcase.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Queen Latifah

All Hail The Queen
Tommy Boy, 1989. Used
It's easy to forget this many years down the road that before TV, before films and before her more commercial LPs, Queen Latifah was a dope MC who could bring it with the best of them when she stepped to the mic. Mark the 45 King delivers tight beats for most of the LP that also features ... CD

Thaione Davis

April January
Enviromentally Sound, 2003. Used
A sweet little groover of an instrumentals set from Chicago's Thaione Davis. April January is a mellow, trippy, sampledelic platter of soundscapes from start to finish, cut with some nice dialogue samples that set the cool, cool vibe very nicely. All told, it's a jazzy, beat-thumping set with a ... CD

Jurassic 5

Power In Numbers
Interscope, 2002. Used
All praise to the mighty J5 – reminding us in the early 00s that hip hop could still be about funky, party rockin' beats and flowing on beat, with witty, intelligent rhymes – and sound as fresh as ever! This album's mostly produced by Cut Chemist, though Nu Mark has a hand in a number ... CD

Slum Village

Evolution
Ne'Astra, 2013. Used
Evolution is the title of the album – and it's also the name of the game for Slum Village – whose peak material remains some of the best hip hop to ever come out of the Detroit scene! SV has evolved into a showcase for group co-founder and sole remaining original member T3 – ... CD
Geffen, 1996. Used
The second major label set from The Roots, and what many consider their first and definitely not their last) irrefutable classic! We could make the case for the debut Do You Want More? as a bonafide classic, too, but this is certainly the tone certainly the one that cemented their status and one ... CD

Large Professor

1st Class (clean version)
Matador, 2002. Used
It may not be the BeAllEndAll that the Matador hype machine is trying to cook up, but Large Professor's waaaay too long in the making first LP (first to be officially released, anyway) is a very solid effort, and a strong, raw head bumper all the way through. Nothing fancy, just tried and true hip ... CD

Re:Jazz

Re:Jazz
Infracom (Germany), 2002. Used
Fantastic stuff – and a jazz remix project with a real difference! The difference here is that instead of taking older jazz tracks and re-doing them in dance music versions, the set takes original dance tracks and re-does them in jazz versions! The result is wonderful – a warm-voiced ... CD

Kyoto Jazz Massive

Kyoto Jazz Massive EP
Compost/Sony (Japan), 2001. Used
Excellent work from Kyoto Jazz Massive – one of their strongest showings in years! This 5 track ep kicks off with 2 versions of "The View From Her Room" – a lovely little jazz vocal number with Bebel Gilberto in the lead, singing soft and warmly over breezy modern bossa ... CD
