Without You In My Life

LP (Item 4919) Dakar, 1972 — Condition: Sealed

Warm and tender work from the mighty Tyrone Davis – really singing here at the height of his early powers, in that wonderful blend of the rough and smooth that made him so unique! Davis has a gritty touch in his singing style, but the backings have that perfect Brunswick Chicago soul approach – a blend that's laid out perfectly in the album's arrangements from Monk Higgins, Willie Henderson, and Tom Tom Washington! Tyrone's a singer who's really a cut above – especially on his early work like this – able to charm and convince us with just about any sort of lyric. Titles include "Wrapped Up In Your Warm & Tender Love", "I'm Just Your Man", "There It Is", "I Had It All the Time", and "True Love Is Hard to Find".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Sealed original pressing! Cover has a cutout notch.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

You Want It You Got It
Westbound, 1972. Very Good-
Detroit had plenty of great harmony groups in the 60s – but by the early 70s, The Detroit Emeralds were right on top – a feat that was easy to do with work this great! A brilliant double live album by Bill Withers – different than his studio work, and every bit as essential! Dang, if it sounded like this at our church, we'd go to mass every Sunday! Donna Summer

Wanderer
Geffen, 1980. Near Mint-
Donna Summer steps strongly into the 80s with a whole new groove – still working here with producer Giorgio Moroder, but in a way that's quite different than the electro disco the pair created in the 70s! Instead, there's more of a straighter soul vibe to the record, but one that makes more ... LP, Vinyl record album
Curtom, 1969. Very Good+ Gatefold
Quite possibly our favorite-ever album by the Impressions! The record is a key transitional one – and it has them opening up the politics that were often hidden by spiritual metaphors on earlier ABC albums, into a righteous soul groove that hints a lot at the overblown direction Curtis ... Eye Of The Beholder
Atlantic/Fania, 1977. Near Mint-
