Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Joe Henderson

Mirror Mirror
MPS/Edel (Germany), 1980. Used
A great lost session from tenorist Joe Henderson – recorded in 1980 for MPS Records, in a mellower, more easy-going style than some of his electric sides of the 70s! Joe's blowing in a really fluid style – almost like Stan Getz at times, but with a darker, edgier approach – and ... CD

Joe Henderson

Joe Henderson In Japan
Milestone/OJC, 1971. Used
An excellent rare session from Joe – recorded in Japan, and featuring the kind of electric piano grooves that work great with his sweet reed sound of the early 70s. The group's a Japanese trio, with Motohiko Hino on drums, and Hideo Ichikawa on electric piano – and the cuts all have ... CD

Joe Henderson

Standard Joe
Red (Italy), 1991. Used
There's nothing standard about this set – as Joe Henderson always brings something special to a recording session – especially at this point in his career! The album has a wonderful format – Joe's unique tenor tone set up beautifully alongside the bass of Rufus Reid and drums of ... CD
Milestone, 1970. Used
A great electric set – recorded at the Lighthouse in 1970, in that slightly funky mode of Joe's best work from the time! Joe Henderson's beautiful soloing style, honed at this point on a number of fine Blue Note recordings, is set free in a band that includes Woody Shaw, Lenny White, and ... CD
Verve, 1991. Used
Amazing sounds from Joe Henderson's later years – a completely sublime take on the music of Billy Strayhorn, and a wonderful demonstration of Henderson's mature talents on the tenor! There's a fantastic balance here between darkness and light, grit and clarity, heard in Joe's very first ... CD

Joe Henderson

Four
Verve, 1968. Used
An unissued live session from tenor legend Joe Henderson – with hip backing by the trio of Wynton Kelly on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Jimmy Cobb on drums! Dunno. CD
Verve/Lilith (Russia), 1972. Used
One of the hippest Jimmy Smith albums of the early 70s – a lean and mean, down and dirty, back to basics session for Verve – one that's got plenty of grit in the grooves! L:ike the Root Down album, this set is recorded live with a very stretched out feel – tracks that take Jimmy ... CD

Stan Getz/Clarke Boland Big Band

Change Of Scenes
Verve, 1971. Used
A fantastic rare album cut by Stan Getz in Europe! The session features Getz as the main soloist with the Clarke-Boland Big Band, and the overall sound is an incredible chapter in both the career of Getz and the CBBB. Given that most of the CBBB's soloists had a sharp angular sound, Getz's softer ... CD

Duke Ellington & Johnny Hodges

Side By Side
Verve, 1959. Used
A great little session that builds on the strength of Johnny Hodges' small group 50s sessions for Verve – and which lets Duke Ellington in on some of the action! The format is nicely stripped-down throughout – featuring Hodges in sextet and septet formation with players that include ... CD

Paul Quinichette

Vice Pres
Verve, 1951/1952/1954. Used
Some of the greatest work as a leader ever cut by tenorist Paul Quinichette – longtime Basie alum, and a key player who was the "Vice Pres" next to Lester Young's "Pres". The CD combines a huge batch of tracks from the early 50s – including titles from the album The ... CD

Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Stitt, Sonny Rollins

Sonny Side Up
Verve, 1957. Used
A great little blowing session for Verve – one that has Dizzy Gillespie working here with two different "Sonnys" – Sonny Stitt and Sonny Rollins, both of whom play tenor on the set! The tracks here are all quite long and open – more loose vehicles for extended soloing ... CD
