An incredible return to form for the Art Ensemble of Chicago – as the return of Joseph Jarman to the group really seems to have given them a new sense of focus, purpose, and direction! There's a tunefulness here that's really wonderful – a sense of lyrical interplay that's especially bright between the horns of Jarman and Roscoe Mitchell, but which is also graced by some beautiful bass work by the late Malachi Favors. The record's a surprising late classic in the group's catalog, and has really renewed our interest in the Art Ensemble.
