Zodiac Suite

LP (Item 489883) Capitol, 1957 — Condition: Very Good
Originally: 9.99
Very moody work from British maestro Norrie Paramor! The Zodiac Suite is a batch of 12 tracks all dedicated to various aspects of the horoscope – each scored slightly differently by Paramor, in keeping with the specific characteristics of each sign! Instrumentation is fully orchestral on most numbers – in the lush style we've come to know in Norrie's other work of the 50s, but with some slight exotic touches from time to time, as you might expect for the setting. Titles include "Cancerian Concerto", "An Aries Aria", "Taurus Tango", "Ode To Pisces", "Mood Aquarius", and "The Sagacious Sagittarius".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Turquoise label pressing – clean, with a few light marks.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Early work from Yma Sumac – with that moody mix of other worldly vocals and semi-Latin instrumentation that made her a popular one with the early exotic crowd. Yma Sumac

Mambo!
Capitol, 1954. Near Mint-
Quite possibly our favorite album ever by the enigmatic Yma Sumac – thanks to some lively arrangements by Billy May, who gives the set a swinging jazzy groove! As you might guess from the cover, the style here is more in a Latin jazz mode than some of Yma's other more ethereal work – ... LP, Vinyl record album

18th Century Jazz
Capitol, Late 50s. Very Good+
Goofy "18th Century" jazziness, played by a tight west coast studio sextet that features Shelly Mann, Milt Raskin, Harry Klee, and Jack Marshall on guitar. The tracks are jazz standards, but they're given a sort of plucked sound, and layed out with some sort of stepping classical grooves. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Joshua Rifkin

Baroque Beatles Book
Elektra, 1965. Very Good+
One of the weirdest Beatle-related projects of the 60s – and one of the most abstract, as well! The album's got kind of an odd concept – in that it purports to be a rediscovery of rare baroque music roots of famous Beatle tunes by Lennon & McCartney – recorded with offbeat ...
