Ricardo Ray & Bobby Cruz Superpak

LP (Item 48915) United Artists, Mid 60s — Condition: Very Good
2LP Gatefold

A great little 2LP set – issued by UA Latino in the early 70s, but compiling some of the best work of the Cruz/Ray team from the 60s! We're not sure what label some of these tunes are from, although we do recognize some of them from Alegre albums of the 60s – and we can say that there's a few tasty boogaloo numbers that really make the set worthwhile! The album includes two versions of the track "Trumpet Man" – labelled parts 1 & 2, but clearly different recordings. Other titles include "Wakamba", "Richie's Jala Jala", "Tin Marin", "Ay Conchita", "Azucare Y Bongo", "El Diferente", and "Colorin Colorado".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has wear and mostly split top and bottom seams.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Wonderfully jazzy work from Tito Rodriguez – and further proof that his live albums are often some of the best he ever recorded! Let's Do The Bossa Nova!
United Artists, Mid 60s. Very Good
Very cool album that has Tito leaving his more traditional Afro Cuban groove for a more Brazilian one. Tito and band do some nicely groovy versions of bossa standards and more obscure material – including "Otra Vez", "Doralice", "O Pato", "Un Abraco No ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ostensibly another West Side Story pop ripoff album, this is actually a strong album of Latin tracks that uses the popularity of the musical to draw a parallel with the "west side" grooves of the New York Latin scene.
