Rockin' Soul

LP (Item 48914) RCA, 1974 — Condition: Very Good+
Groovy crossover soul from The Hues Corporation – music that's perfectly tuned to come right out of the small speakers on an AM radio, yet still retain all the depth of the arrangements! The trio are hitting their best pre-disco stride here – as the album brings back the tune "Rock The Boat", which was a bit buried on their debut – and surrounds it with a number of equally grooving tunes arranged by Tom Sellers – numbers that don't yet have a straight disco approach, and which instead work through a mix of playful styles that bring the most out of the interplay between the vocals. In addition to "Rock The Boat", other titles include "I Got Caught Dancing Again", "No End In Sight", "Ease On Down The Road", "Love's There", "I'll Take A Melody", "Into My Music", and "Rockin Soul".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(The bottom 4 inches of the cover is pretty wavy with light staining & wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Crown Heights Affair
RCA, 1974. Near Mint-
Their first LP, and one that we like way better than anything else they ever did. A bit like early Bohannon at ... LP, Vinyl record album

Diana Ross

Silk Electric

Diana Ross really finds a way to remake her groove here – a sweet new sound that fits her revamped look in the Andy Warhol image on the cover! Landmark harmony soul from The Stylistics – a set that's every bit as wonderful as their debut, with the kind of sweet, soulful sound that got played over and over and over and over again back in the day! Mid-period Stylistics, recorded after their association with Thom Bell and Linda Creed, and during the time that the group was handled by Hugo & Luigi.
