Definitely a well-titled collection – as it brings together a wide range of remixes and singles by Big Bang – all of which are as essential as the full length albums! The Big Bang groove is a wonderful one – steeped in jazz funk and fusion traditions of the 70s, but put together in a leaner, more stripped down mode for the 21st Century – a style that certainly has echoes of BB's London residency, but which comes off with a sound that's warmer and more fluid than most of their contemporaries! There's a strongly jazz-based component to many of these tunes – one that's located mostly in the keyboards, but which is there nonetheless – brimming up from the bottom to fill these tunes with a sense of life and joy that's really amazing. Titles include "Clouds", "To The Full Every Minute", "Yo Yo Jazz (Nicola Conte rework)", "My Favorite Things", "Another Day (Viper squad rmx)", "Lady (4 Hero rework)", "Summer Fields", "Batucada Mondiale", "Smile In Your Eyes", and "Spiral Waltz (Indigo Jam Unit rmx)".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Brooklyn Funk Essentials

Cool & Steady & Easy
Groovetown, 1995. Used
We've got to be honest and admit that we always felt that Brooklyn Funk Essentials were one of those second generation bandwagon jumpers of the acid jazz scene, though this LP is not without some redeeming moments, principally the Masta Ace remix of their take on the Pharoah Sanders classic "Cr ... Outside

Discoveries
Dorado (UK), 1997. Used
A fantastic album of spacey keyboards, and one of the most abstract albums from the team of Matt Cooper and Andreas Allen. The tracks have the band's usual slow funky feel (which we love!), but there's also a very strong focus on electronic keys – played in a bubbling 70s style that sounds ... CD

Dining Rooms

Tre (US version)
Guidance, 2003. Used
The 3rd album by The Dining Rooms – and the best so far! These guys have really matured from earlier outings – moving into a sophisticated realm of downtempo soundscapes crafted with a great deal of care, and which are put together with a lot more than simple tricks and gimmicks. ... CD

Irma (Italy), 2002. Used
Brazilian grooves get a real workout here – as tracks from Dom Um Romao's Lake of Perseverance album are remixed by a host of young DJs and producers! The sound of the original album is greatly expanded – as the remixers are given really free range to do their thing, cutting open the ... CD

Jazztronik & Others

Lovetronica!!
Pony Canyon (Japan), 2009. Used 2 CDs
Jazztronik figures here more as a mixer than an artist – serving up 2CDs worth of music, most of it with a pretty club-heavy vibe! The package is divided up into two servings, one for each disc – Love Tribe and Jazztronica – and the former has a very upbeat, housey groove, while ... CD

Groove Armada

Lovebox
Jive/Zomba, 2003. Used
Groove Armada get a bit dirtier with this one – messing up the beats a lot and giving the album a crunchier feel that's supposed to evoke more of a "classic" funky feel. The whole thing's still a bit hard to buy – meaning that it's not really as authentically funky or classic ... CD
Rambling (Japan), 2004. Used

CBS, 1974. Used
Spiritual, soulful, and oh, so beautiful! This record captures Earth Wind & Fire at a perfect transition moment – when they've still got some of their avant jazz roots, but are leaning towards the smooth soulful funk sound that put them on the charts a few years later. The whole thing's ... CD

DJ Shadow

Endtroducing
Mo Wax, 1996. Used
It seems like when this came out, critics, and even DJs liked to drop the term "Trip Hop" whenever possible, and this album was held up as the watershed mark. A few years down the line and it still holds up, but as an instrumental hip hop LP, as much as a rock album (Shadow's gone on to ... CD
