I Want To Live! – Deluxe Edition

CD (Item 488798) Ryko/MGM, 1958 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

One of the greatest jazz soundtracks of all time! Johnny Mandel composed the memorable score for this late 50's film starring Susan Hayward, and the music is played by Mandel's orchestra and a smaller group led by Gerry Mulligan, which includes Art Farmer, Shelly Manne, and Bud Shank. The music was originally issued on 2 different albums – but the CD brings together both LPs worth of tracks, for a whopping 22 selections, wrapped in an overstuffed package brimming with notes and photos, and pressed on an "expanded CD" that also has Quick Time archival material! The whole thing's a jazz soundtrack lover's delight – and tracks include "Poker Game", "Stakeout", "Black Nightgown", "Death Scene", "The Last Mile", and "Gas Chamber Unveiling".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Fab reissue of this jazzy soundtrack from the early 60s. The film's a cool gangster flick that starred Joey Bishop, Jim Backus, Mort Sahl, and Telly Savalas (what a cast!) – and also featured Sammy Davis Jr., who sings two cuts from the score, "The Ballad of Johnny Cool", and the ... CD

Film Score Monthly, 1966. Used
A great early western soundtrack from Ennio Morricone – penned for a US film starring Burt Reynolds as the Navajo in the title! The work here is possibly a bit more conventional than some of Morricone's darker western scores – more dramatic at points, but still in ways that undeniably ... CD

Brilliant Morricone material from the end of the 60s – penned for a film that took up the same "gang of guys" mode used in The Dirty Dozen or Magnificent Seven! As usually with the maestro at this point in his career, the soundtrack is it's own very special thing – away from ... CD

One of the grooviest Henry Mancini soundtracks of the 60s – a wonderful blend of jazzy themes and action moments, and a record that's possibly better-remembered than the film for which it was recorded! The main "Charade" theme is a total gem – performed here in both a guitar-h ... CD
