❔

A bit one for Patti Labelle in the 80s – a set that crossed over big at the time, but which still has the lady in very soulful territory! Patti seems to sparkle most here on the mellower cuts – the gentle groovers and laidback ballads that helped open her up to a whole new audience, and which really give her a different sound than her 70s Labelle years. Titles include the Bacharach/Carol Bayer Sager title "On My Own" – sung as a duet with Michael McDonald – plus "Oh People", "There's A Winner In You", "Finally We're Back Together", "Beat My Heart Like A Drum", "Kiss Away The Pain", "Something Special", and "You're Mine Tonight".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has a name in pen.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Tasty
Epic, 1978. Very Good
A real classic from the great Patti Labelle – one of the lady's first few albums as a solo act, and a set that definitely marks her step forward into a whole new sort of sophisticated soul! Patti Labelle

It's Alright With Me
Epic, 1979. Near Mint-
A late 70s gem from Patti Labelle! Although the album's recorded right in the height of the disco years, Patti's really shining on the mellower cuts – hitting a serious soulful side that shows that her move to a solo act really let her move into more sophisticated material. There are ... LP, Vinyl record album

Patti Labelle

Released
Epic, 1980. Very Good+
A real standout in the early solo years of Patti Labelle – and a great set that reunites the singer with New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint – who'd previously worked some magic with Patti and the Labelle trio! Love Current
MCA, 1979. Sealed

Dream Express

Dream Express
MCA/Carousel, 1979. Very Good
Dream Express have some pretty freaky hair on the cover – almost clownish costumes that seem to fit the good natured feel of this disco session from the late 70s! Alicia Myers

Alicia Again
MCA, 1981. Near Mint-
One of the nicest solo records by Alicia Myers – formerly a vocalist with Al Hudson and The Soul Partners, but sounding even better here on her own. Thelma Houston

Qualifying Heat
MCA, 1984. Near Mint-
Although Thelma's best known for her grooves from earlier years, she still sounds plenty darn great on this sweet set from the mid 80s – a bouncy, buoyant batch of tunes that updates the rhythms a bit, but still serves up plenty of her classic-styled vocals! Backings are heavy on beats and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bill Summers & Summer's Heat

London Style
MCA, 1983. Near Mint-
Bill Summers' London Style here is one that's definitely influenced by the changes on the dancefloor coming from the UK in the early 80s – and the groove is a slightly more electrified take on the rhythms that Bill was laying down on previous albums for MCA! Overall, though, the sound's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bobby Womack

Galaxy
MCA, 1977. Very Good
