Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Patti Austin

End Of A Rainbow
CTI (Japan), 1976. Used
Wonderfully warm soul from the great Patti Austin – a key artist in the late 70s, and one who really helped push the music forward with a new sense of sophistication! Patti's got a strongly jazzy vibe here – and works with David Matthews arrangements that are really well put-together ... CD

Oattes Van Schaik (The Limit)

Limit (aka Love Attaxx)
Portrait/PTG (Netherlands), 1985. Used
Dutch soul, but with plenty of help from US talents – including Gwen Guthrie on vocals and David Sanborn on saxes! Oattes Van Schaik is actually the duo of Bernard Oattes and Rob Van Shaik – and the album was originally issued under the group name of The Limit in Europe, which was then ... CD

Stroke

Stroke
Mirage/FTG (France), 1985. Used
The bass gets plenty of stroke on this mid 80s set – a record that hangs somewhere between 80s groove and Prince-era funk – but with a bit of quiet storm feel at times too! The tunes are pretty lean, not nearly as excessive as they could be – and often, a key instrumental element ... CD
Collectables/Sue, Late 60s. Used
Easily the best album ever cut by the duo of Don Gardner and Dee Dee Ford – a swinging live set recorded in Sweden, with a much stronger soul jazz sound than some of their other recordings. Don's playing some great Hammond organ on the album – in the tradition of Jimmy McGriff's work ... CD

Charles Packy Axton & Others

Late Late Party
Light In The Attic, Late 60s. Used
One of the greatest and most historically important compilations ever put together by our friends at Light In The Attic – the first ever (!!!) anthology devoted to Stax sax great Charles "Packy" Axton! Packy was a founding member of the Mar-Keys and a cat who played with the best ... CD
Numero, Mid 70s. Used 3CD

Cameo

Secret Omen
Chocolate City/Rebound, 1979. Used
A sweet stunner from Cameo – a set that's got the group working with an even tighter, more on the money sound than before – yet never in a way that's too slick or commercial! These guys were one of the first to push the big ensemble funk sound into a leaner approach, and they really ... CD

Charles Hull

Charles The First
Basement Digs (Australia), Late 70s. Used
Clubby soul and keyboard funk from the 70s Aussie scene – a record that's halfway between Mark Murphy's Muse records of the decade, and some of the tighter soundtrack funk of the time! The sound is jazzy all the way through – often with vocals by keyboardist Hull or a few other singers ... CD
Roulette/Blue Note, 1969. Used
Mellow but compelling work from Betty Carter – singing here with the Norman Simmons trio in an album of material pulled from 2 different live dates in 1969. There's a few nice numbers where the group really opens up – and Betty pushes the envelope vocally, in a style that she'd explore ... CD
